    More than 50,000 utility customers were left without power in Phoenix as dust and rainstorms amid a strong monsoon swept across parts of the Valley and Pinal County in Arizona, according to ABC15 Arizona. As of 7:30 PM, about 52,000 customers were without power. The APS outage map showed around 9,000 customers affected, while the SRP outage map reported about 47,400 customers without power, ABC15 Arizona stated.

    The power outage comes as monsoon storms blanket Arizona on Monday (August 25, 2025), including a dust storm warning for parts of the Valley and Pinal County. Besides this, severe weather conditions temporarily halted all flights at Sky Harbor International Airport in Phoenix on Monday evening.

    KOLD-TV, a CBS-affiliated TV station in Tucson, Arizona, reported that as many as 62 flights are delayed, according to FlightAware. The PHX Sky Train was also closed. Arrivals and departures were both paused, and the closure lasted for about an hour.

    Monsoon storm strikes Phoenix


    A monsoon storm struck the Phoenix area, triggering a dust storm, thunderstorms, and a ground stop at the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. According to azcentral, a dust storm advisory was issued and was in effect until 7 PM on August 25 for several regions in the Valley, the National Weather Service's Phoenix office said. According to the weather service, this included Avondale and Goodyear near Interstate 10, Interstate 17, and U.S. 60 near Phoenix and Mesa.

    A National Weather Service forecast informed that Apache Junction, Chandler, Gilbert, Goodyear, Laveen, Maricopa, Tempe, and Tolleson were the other locations that were impacted. A severe thunderstorm warning was issued through 6:15 p.m. for Chandler, Gilbert, Mesa, and Tempe, the weather service said.
