We tried something slightly unusual. No big stage. No dramatic music. No long speeches that politely overstay their welcome. Just a room, a stack of certificates and a team that refuses to do average. After Wendy Tan was recognised as one of the Best Marketing Leaders in Financial Services at the Malaysia CMO Awards, it felt incomplete to stop there. Because high standards don’t come from one person. They come from a group of people who keep raising the bar on each other… sometimes gently, sometimes not so gently. So we brought the team together and handed out certificates, one by one. Simple? Yes. Necessary? Absolutely. Because what this team has built isn’t just good marketing. It’s a culture. A culture where “good enough” is usually challenged. Where ideas are stretched, debated, and occasionally taken apart… only to come back stronger. Where people don’t just complement each other’s strengths, they actively compensate for each other’s blind spots. And here’s the interesting part. When you get that kind of environment right, outcomes stop being the goal. They become the byproduct. Better thinking leads to better work. Better work leads to better results. So this wasn’t really about certificates. It was about recognising a shared standard. A quiet, collective agreement to not settle. Congratulations, Wendy and team, on a well-deserved recognition. Thank you for the discipline, the push, and the belief in doing better every single time. Also, a note of appreciation to Prof Harmandar Singh and the team at Marketing Magazine Asia for recognising not just the headline, but the people behind it. Because in the end, great marketing isn’t built on moments of brilliance. It’s built on teams who consistently refuse to lower the bar even when no one is watching. #RHB #TogetherWeProgress
