Welcome one and all to another season of FPL and the 4th edition of the Thaiger Talk league. Last year, we had 38 players, including regular Thaiger Talk members and guests. In the end "11 Tigers" won the league and “Lil Slackers” sprung an upset in the cup. And my team had their worst season ever :( If you’d like to join, the auto link is: https://fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/auto-join/cwjot6 (NB - if you are new to FPL, this game is administered off-site and you’ll need to enter a username. If you wish to maintain anonymity, just make one up: Donald Duck, Johnny Jones etc) …

IMO as men get older we need to do 15-30 minutes of exercise a day. Nothing strenuous like running - but just a few exercises at home.

Although this was just an exhibition fight in Mexico, what a joke it was. If I had been a paying attendee expecting something worthwhile watching, it would have been better to stay at home. The other bouts before the main card had a lot more going for them with the main co-event being the highlight. Mayweather at 47 is showing his age. He still has some moves but never really got going. Only 8 two minute rounds with a big hissy fit towards the end of round 2. Mayweather complaining about the referee. After about a minute of stoppage a new referee took over. John Gotti the Third in pre bout advertising declared this was a blood match, due t…

Decades of drug scandals, the inclusion of vile regimes, boring sports included, monumental costs of staging the event, that could be better spent, I could not be less interested in the Olympic Games. Is it just me?

This is a worthwhile read for people like me who are now officially "elderly" (although I don't think of myself as such). However, I've noticed issues with by ability to dredge up words out of memory when I'm writing, and that issue is a relatively new phenomenon for me. I've got a stationary bike so I'm going to start adding interval training into the exercise mix as opposed to just walking. Why not? Quality of life is really the issue for most of us as we age, and maintaining mental acuity is a QoL issue for sure. Short Bursts of Intense Exercise for 6 Months Can Reduce Cognitive Decline: Research Researchers at the University of Queensland found high-in…

So the question is would you use an indoor exercise bike, do the purists among you consider them to be off limits or would you use one? The reason I ask this question is I decided to bite the bullet and buy one, it came on Sunday, built it up, took about 20 minutes. It came with one of those racing saddles that tries to slice you in two so that got exchanged immediately to a softly softly saddle. The bike is magnetically controlled and cheap as chips, but well built, bluetooth connected immediately, it does not come with a console but will connect to many workout apps available on PlayStore to connect to your tablet etc. This particular bike is the Yesoul S3, it was…

The Asian Cup is now underway with Thailand taking part. Is anyone watching? Qatar are the defending champions and hosts, and there are 24 teams taking part. Some standouts and a fair bit of dross. Thailand are in Group F with Saudi Arabia, Kyrgyzstan and Oman. Would like to see them go through. They're up on Tuesday vs Kyrgyzstan. Probably a must win game, looking at the other teams Australia are in Group B with Syria, Uzbekistan and India. I watched Australia vs India last night. Probably FA Cup League One vs Conference standard. What has happened to the Aussies???? Kewell, Cahill, Viduka, Neill used to light up the Premier League, current crop not so muc…

Watch this last 10 minutes of Fiji v Wales, When I was in my late 20's was lucky enough to be invited to a box and watch the Rugby sevens in Sydney, I will never forget the game with Fiji, and how the crowd was cheering for them. On Sunday the Fiji team beat the W0ke Wallabies easily. I can in no way comprehend that happening with the old teams that included Israel Folau, Fiji v Wales gripping last 10.

I came across a fascinating article on BigThink (bigthink.com), a wonderful website that explores ideas in both the arts and sciences. The focal point of the article is that a serious cyclist MUST shave their legs because it does actually make a difference. Yes, it seems a bit... words fail me, but if you read through the entire article, it'll be well worth your time. "At average speeds between 20 and 40 miles per hour, the bigger factor for cyclists was the surface area of the body meeting the wind—and the surface area of a shaved leg is as much as 10 percent less than that of a hairy counterpart. “At these speeds, reducing the surface area is the most imp…

The game is easy to play. For each game week of fixtures, just predict the correct result and score. 10 points if you get the result correct (home, win, draw) + 30 bonus points for correctly predicting the exact score of each fixture. Rules: 1. Correctly selecting the fixture as home, away or a draw earns you 10 points. 2. Predicting the exact score of any fixture result earns you an extra 30 ‘bonus’ points. 3. You cannot change match predictions or scores after first submission. 4. Any postponed matches will be void, and nil points awarded for that fixture. 5. Predictions to be submitted no later than 1 hour before the first game kick off time. 6. Fail…

Well well well, what a hero she turned out to be, worst appearance by the USA in world cup history by the women's team. USA women team lose 5-4 in penalty shootout to Sweden after a draw with Portugal, I think the goal post saved them from being booted out? She was a nasty nasty women anyway, won't be missed and the sport will better off without her. https://edition.cnn.com/2023/08/05/football/usa-sweden-womens-world-cup-2023-spt-intl/index.html

LPS is back, folks. This game is easy to play. For each game week of fixtures, pick any team you think will win. If you are correct, you progress to the next week. Wrong, and you're out. You can't pick the same team twice until you've picked all of the other teams (you can't pick Manchester City every week). 2 points for a win and 5 points for the Last Person Standing. If you'd like to play, simply pick one winner from the Game Week 1 fixtures below, and you'll be added to the competition excel, which will be posted later. Crystal Palace v Arsenal Fulham v Liverpool Bournemouth v Aston Villa Leeds v Wolves Newcastle v Notts Forrest Spurs v Southampton Ev…

I am just back from my morning cycle; it was one of those days where the wind and rain were so powerful that it was like riding into a firehose. Yes, I probably should have stayed in bed, but I didn't cycle yesterday on account of the weather, so... not an option. My early morning cycle is the time when I clear out my head and go into a 'Zen' mode; I am aware of my surroundings, traffic (if there is any), weather, potential Soi dogs, etc., but my thoughts wander elsewhere. This morning I was about 15 KM from home when the rain/wind just exploded in ferocity; I was already wet, but ducked under someone's awning in front of their house. On a side note, I truly hop…

With World Cup qualifying well underway, competition for the 31 spots up for grabs is heating up. Which teams will make it and who will miss out? Who would you like to see in (or not in)? Let’s get into it here. Another round of Asian qualifiers last night. Australia, Saudi Arabia, South Korea and Iran are in the automatic spots. Japan already in deep trouble and could miss out for the first time since ‘94 if they don’t lift their game. https://www.espn.com/soccer/standings/_/league/fifa.worldq.afc

It's this time of the year where mates batter mates in the State of Origin series. Queensland vs New South Wales. As my old friend big Justin of the now gone Koala Bar in Udon is in Brissy and another old friend Big Greig who used to have the Harmony Bar in Nutty Park in Udon is a Sydney sider I have to support one of the Cobber's so I'm a Maroon's fan up the Maroons.

Hiya, Footie fans, @BigHewer, @Chaimai, @Faz, @Marble-eye, @snapdragon, @spicy_girland @Slacker77! With our fab footie games both coming to a well-earned break this weekend and with, I feel, a downturn of interest in the LPS format, I was wondering if any of you gamesters may have ideas for starting a new game, hopefully to run alongside the FFFF game, if Faz is happy to continue running that. Maybe yes, maybe no, but truth is KC’s been hatching a little game, called – would you believe? – GOALS! which has the win-win factor of (A) keeping everyone involved every week and (B) is very easy to play and also to manage; so easy in fact that I’d be happy to do…

Shocking scenes from the security outside the Stade de France as French police in full riot gear pepper-sprayed and tear-gassed Liverpool supporters prior to kick-off. We witnessed men women and children being tear-gassed by these thugs. One thing that should come from this is the Stad de France should never be allowed to stage any big finals in the next few years.
