Hi all. Been in Thailand for about 17 years. Moved out to Isaan almost straight away. Had a lot of different jobs in my life. Teacher, salesman, soldier, builder, www developer, wine-dealer, local politician; but never a farmer. And what an experience it has all been. And still is to this day. Join me for my week-to-week experiences. Often funny and enlightening; amazing even. Sometimes very sad; when the three kiddies drowned in the village just two months ago. And mostly just plain hard work. Have two solar systems on the go and plan two more later this year. 12,000 eucalyptus trees. Eight big ponds. 400+ oil-palm trees. P…

A few years ago the wife and I visited the local government office and in 20 minutes, for a small fee, obtained a stamped copy of her ex husbands Death Certificate, Painless, even though he was from a different province. We needed it to get married. So about a year ago we went to the same office to get a copy of her birth certificate as she has misplaced it. We got a real runaround from the fairly senior bloke in the amphur. He asked us to come back with no less than 3 neighbours to vouch for her, which we did. He took copies of their IDs and said he would visit each one to verify their/our address. He never showed (no surprise) so now we need to try again. She …

How come there's a difference between Google Maps on a PC and the Android App of the same name? ! wanted to paste some coordinates to find a location. On a PC it's fine. It takes me to the place on the side of a road. Using the Android App, pasting the same data in and I get "No results found on Google Maps" This is the latitude and longitude: 17.31176, 102.66123 It's just a minor road outside of Udon. What makes the Android map version so difficult?

Tell you something; there are far too many stupid, ill informed, conspiracy theory, separate posts about COVID vaccines and it is seriously putting me off spending time on this forum. Either consolidate all these idiot posts in one posting, so that sensible people can ignore them and their posters, or start to lose those of us who are intensely bored with opening up the forum, to find just a long list of Covid related posts, all writing about the same old sxxt and nothing much else of interest. We have seen other forums go to the wall because they were highjacked by a few irrational posters banging on about the same subject for months at a time, I would not like to …

Please move to appropriate forum. Thanks My 20 year old stepson and his friend are renting a room whilst studying to be teachers, somewhere near Samut Prakan. I have just learned that they are being charged Bht 10 per unit for electricity. I read somewhere on here that this is illegal. Can anyone enlighten me please, and what can be done about it. Yeh, I guess the Landlord will put the rent up to compensate.

Do you want to live the dream? Well this is what I did, just follow some basic steps and you may be able to retire early in comfort. 1. Pay down your personal debt. Do it now no matter how old you are,get out of the debt cycle, there are many financial advisers available to help you accomplish this. 2. Cut out un-needed spending, Simply ask yourself, "do I need it". 3. Cut out impulsive buying, Don't buy the coke or pepsi at the corner store on the way home, you can buy at your leisure when you retire in paradise. 4. Work all the overtime you can, this will give you an added bonus of being known as a dependable employee by the boss. 5. Consolidate…

Hi, I have a good chance to get offered a job in Bangkok as a customer service representative for a Travel agency (English+other European language), although as I was told by their HR, this job also involves a 24/7 hotline, so it's not only a regular 9-5 office job. I was asked about my job salary expectations and I find hard to provide a good estimation, since the related websites (Payscale, Glassdoor, others) have a great disparity, ranging from 25,000 THB to even 47,000 THB as an "entry-level" payment. Is anyone working on a similar job to have a better estimation? I have also read about the minimum salary for foreigners and that it depends on nationality, but I als…

Can BMA and relevant authorities clamp down on smoking within condo premises or public areas? Smokers are putting residents and children at risk in these premises and also avoid possible risk of covid-19 spread. Condo juristic office hands seem tied and they cannot do anything other than put up no-smoking sign boards.

Hi, My wife has bought a motorbike to her son. The motorbike is on my wife's name. In the beginning the monthly installments were paid as planned, but suddenly my wife's son couldn't pay anymore the monthly installments, neither did my wife. Now the motorbike company wants me to pay the whole remaining part immediately. They claim that because I am married with my Thai wife, the company can withhold the amount from my pension received from Europe. Is that so ?

Pol Sub-Lt Vichai Sureeyut, a former police officer who was affectionately called a “crazy man who loves planting trees” and was responsible for planting more than three million trees since 1988 in his home district of Prang Gu, in the north-eastern province of Si Sa Ket, died last Saturday night at the age of 77. Vichai began his police career in 1968 in Mueang district of Si Sa Ket, after his graduation from a police academy in Nakhon Ratchasima. Two years later, he was transferred to Prang Ku district, until his retirement in 2006 at the rank of sub-lieutenant. According to 1997 data from the Ministry of Interior, Si Sa Ket was the poorest province in T…

I do not know if Thaiger is even aware of this. Saturday (9 July) I received an email from the US Consulate office in Chiang Mai that they no longer will offer any services to Americans and are no longer in operation to serve Americans effective immediately. The reason that they say is because of staffing shortages. This leaves Americans in Thailand with one embassy in all of Thailand. I don't know how many Americans are actually in Thailand now, but I am guessing that the number is quite large. This goes completely against Thailand's trying to increase tourism and makes it even more difficult for Americans to deal with passport and visa issues. I am a 72 y…

Is this Thailand? I never used to be like this, or is it that I always was, It's just that Thailand has brought out this trait in me. It's now got down to quite trivial levels. I'll clean the car tomorrow, I'll shower the dogs later, I'll get the road tax sorted next week, even though I've got nothing better to do. DIY, forget it, it will never happen. Exercise HaHa. 3 hour coffee shop mornings, my Kindle is my best friend, Where does this end? A quiet death I guess. Will anyone even notice. 😂

We moved to a condo 6 months back that is unfortunately infested with cockroaches. It's a modern building, but the scale of the problem is epic. Nothing controls it. We've had a pest control company in, but they're back in a few days. A maid regularly cleans, which includes wiping down the insides of cupboards to eliminate cockroach faeces and eggs and even the roof surfaces and elsewhere in cupboards. But they're back in 3 days. All food and such is kept in sealed containers. The point I'm trying to make is that we're doing everything possible to control the infestation, but nothing works. They come in from outside. There are times when it is possible to see literally do…
