I had an experience yesterday which quite flabbergasted me at the time, but with hindsight shouldn't have, I think. I say "I think" as I would love to hear if members have had similar experiences and/or any informed opinions. I popped into a shop and bought some (home made) yogurt and some Humus which cost, in total, 263 Baht. I gave the nice girls (two of them, both around 25 y/o) three Baht with an obvious flourish, then handed them a 500 Baht note. POW! BAM! KAPLOOEY! It was like I unleashed a flying drop-kick. The two began discussing how much money I should get back (I stayed silent) for a long minute, getting nowhere, then they went into the back to l…

I have a daughter with a masters in special ed and works and teaches teachers in the US. She has expressed and interest about Thailand...she may be visiting later this year. I have heard that there is a school in Hua Hin, or maybe Phetchaburi? I have also heard that the schools would prefer not to have autistic kids in the general school population.

Not sure this is the right section. I'm in the UK, my girlfriend in Thailand wants to improve her English, and I'm fully supportive of that. At the moment, the aim is just to improve her conversational English, rather than reach a specific standard. She signed up, super enthusiastic, to a local language "school", run by an elderly Thai who is multilingual (all Western languages, Russian, Japanese). He's had a stroke or something, and is grubbing out a living tutoring from an office. His course was a 50 hour 25 day challenge sort of thing. I thought this was pretty intensive, along with holding down a job (2 hours in the classroom, and daily homework, and then your da…

The Thailand Embassy won't give information due to the privacy laws regarding the location of my family member who is a US Citizen. He has lived there for over 20 years and I would like to locate or get information on him. I am open for suggestions on how to collect information on him, or my sister who is half Thai. For clarification, I am also a US Citizen.

I want to get opinions on how parents with kids in Thailand see the differences you see.... My observation is in Thailand, kids don't seem to have their friends around the house much. When younger they just go to school and then come home and play with their family/relatives When older they will go out with their friends to movies/mall Where as in the US/Canada, if you have kids, their friends are basically your other kids, they are over the house and around so much Also, how is it when you have older kids(late teens/early 20's) when they have boyfriends/girlfriends? Many expats who decide to settle in Thailand are curious about its public schools’ status. As Thailand is a popular destination for many worldwide, those with kids may be looking to immerse their children in the culture. Thus, enrolling them into the country’s government-sponsored schools may be an option. However, further research into this reveals that the quality of education in Thailand’s schools may not be what they are expecting. As Thailand is full of tropical coastlines and a rich, cultural history, its public school system may not be as glamourous. But, depending on what your goals are for your […] The post A synopsis of Thailand’s educational system appeared fi…

Is it worth it, in the long run, to give your child US citizenship? So they’ll be both citizens of Thailand and the US Personally I’m not allowed to invest in non-US based entities without having to deal with the IRS. My fear is the my child when she grows up will face the same issues. Also she’ll have to file every year and do the FBAR. Any benefits at all?
