B. Jay Bliss shared thisThe signs came down this week and we closed our doors after 53 years serving northeast Denver. With this door closing, I am exploring my next professional chapter. Leading this team has reinforced what I value most: building strong cultures, navigating complexity with clarity, and driving performance through people. I remain passionate about leadership roles in hospitality, revenue strategy, operations, and community-facing organizations. If you’re aware of opportunities where experience, steady leadership, and accountability are valued, I would welcome a conversation. I am equally committed to helping our talented team members find strong next homes. Grateful for what’s been built — and optimistic about what’s next.

B. Jay Bliss shared thisAfter many years of welcoming guests and serving our community, Holiday Inn Denver East will be closing its doors on March 9th. It has been an honor to lead such a dedicated team and to host thousands of guests who trusted us with their meetings, milestones, and travels. I am deeply proud of the resilience and professionalism our staff demonstrated through every challenge and transition. As we approach our final week of operation, I want to recognize the exceptional people who have made this property what it is. Many of our team members will soon be seeking new opportunities across hospitality, operations, sales, and guest services. They are talented, committed professionals, and I would gladly speak on behalf of any of them. To our guests, partners, and community — thank you for your support and trust. It has meant more than you know.

B. Jay Bliss liked thisB. Jay Bliss liked thisA really fun and special networking event last week that showcased exactly why Denver’s hospitality community is so rich and welcoming. I was able to bring together 17 awesome students from MSU Denver School of Hospitality with just as many hospitality industry leaders for a networking event that reinforced why we are so lucky to have this community and hospitality ecosystem here in Denver and Colorado. A week later, I continue to get feedback on how impressive the students were and how impactful it was for them to have met so many approachable and genuine industry leaders. I want to thank all the industry professionals and members of the Metropolitan State University of Denver community who came out to support our students. I am truly thankful for how supportive this community is of our next generation of Colorado hospitality leaders.

Where does the hotel experience end? For some hoteliers it is at the front doors, for others it is beyond. I had the pleasure of speaking to Matt Schalk, General Manager of Hyatt Regency McCormick Place, and hear his thoughts on the guest experience and why he has partnered with Go! Running Tours to extend the hotel experience. We of course also cover equally important topics such as running and travelling. 😎 Watch the full interview here (https://lnkd.in/e8T4RY6K) or listen to it on Spotify and Apple Podcast.

Hotels aren’t just losing bookings, they’re losing the battle for attention. 📉📲 Guests fall in love with your hotel on social… then book it cheaper somewhere else. Why? Secondary OTAs are quietly undercutting your direct rates and hijacking the guest journey. 💥 56% of the time, OTAs beat hotel websites on price 💥 Hotels with rate parity see 3x more visits and 22% more impressions Smart brands are fighting back with AI-powered upselling and direct booking tools. But just as important? They’re investing in mobile-first, socially-integrated, emotionally engaging content journeys. Because in a fragmented world, the brands that win are the ones that connect the dots between inspiration and conversion. 💡

Wellness Wednesday 💛 At Lodging Dynamics, we don't treat team wellbeing as a perk: it's a core part of how we operate. Here are 3 ways hotel leaders can actively build a culture of caring: 1. Schedule with humanity. Flexibility and respect for time off aren't soft, they're smart leadership. 2. Recognize in real time. Don't wait for a review cycle, celebrate wins when they happen! 3. Invest in growth. Clear career pathways reduce stress and build the kind of loyalty that shows up in guest experiences. Well-supported teams deliver stronger results. Wellness isn't separate from performance, it drives it. How is your team building a culture of caring? Things are getting extremely serious….🤬👇 Airports with Ground Stops in the Last Week (Oct 25–31, 2025) The ongoing U.S. government shutdown has exacerbated air traffic controller staffing shortages, leading to multiple ground stops nationwide. These primarily affected major hubs, often in combination with weather like high winds or Hurricane Melissa. Below is a summary based on FAA advisories and reports—note that some started earlier but extended into this period, and “ground delay programs” (related but distinct from full stops) were common ripple effects. Airport Code Date(s) Primary Cause Duration/Impact John F. Kennedy International JFK Oct 31 Staffing shortages + high winds ~1–2 hours; departures held; avg. 60-min delays, some 100+ mins4225 Newark Liberty International EWR Oct 29 & 31 Staffing shortages + high winds 75 mins (Oct 29); ongoing delays to 100+ mins (Oct 31)042 LaGuardia LGA Oct 31 Staffing shortages + high winds Delays up to 5+ hours; no full stop but severe restrictions42 Los Angeles International LAX Oct 26 Staffing shortages 1 hr 45 mins; 22 “staffing triggers” system-wide; led to 100s of delays/cancellations63 George Bush Intercontinental IAH Oct 25–27 (extended) Staffing + runway construction Multiple short stops; possible additional on Oct 27; avg. delays 50–100 mins513 William P. Shutdown-related absences are expected to worsen into November elections. This list focuses on confirmed ground stops; forecasts for potential ones (e.g., Atlanta, Denver, Tampa) didn’t materialize as full stops last week2. #GroundStops #GovernmentShutdown2025 #Hotels #BusinessTravel

VISIT BENTONVILLE • 9K followers
My morning read, was truly inspirational to bring a tourism focus. “If you believe it will work out, you’ll see opportunities. If you believe it won’t, you will see obstacles.” — Wayne Dyer Mindset matters. Perspective shapes what we see and how we move forward. A positive, confident attitude is solution driven. It means recognizing roadblocks but approaching them strategically: Why is it there? What can we learn from it? And how do we work together to move past it? Take a moment to remember that we all have the potential to make things happen. Growing up, my parents pushed us to focus on the end result. The vision was clear. It was up to us to figure out how to get there. In tourism, we often sit on the peripheral edge of major projects. But part of our role is to see the future opportunities before others do. We help tell the story of what is possible and support the people, places, and partners that shape our destination. I think back 21 years ago where we started and me saying “The future opportunities are a blank slate for Visit Bentonville, it up to us to tell that story.” Believe in it! Perspective helps us see the path forward.
