Cathi Royer liked thisCathi Royer liked thisWe’ve talked about quiet quitting. We’ve talked about burnout. But quiet cracking? That one hit hard. Middle managers are being stretched thin. They’re expected to hit targets, navigate change, support their teams, and still somehow stay engaged themselves. The result? They're quietly breaking—emotionally, mentally, and professionally. This article from my teammate Matt Poepsel (yes, THE Godfather of Talent Optimization) is a must-read for anyone in HR or leadership. It puts a spotlight on something we all feel but don’t always name: middle manager strain is real, and it's only getting worse. So what can we do? As HR professionals, we can’t just tell managers to “build resilience” and send them a webinar. We need to: ➡️ Redesign workloads to reduce hidden pressure ➡️ Offer meaningful leadership development (not one-off training) ➡️ Encourage vulnerability—especially from the top ➡️ Create a culture where managers don’t have to fake being OK ➡️ Build feedback loops with managers, not about them Middle managers are the backbone of our orgs. If they crack, so does the culture. What do you think? If you’re a middle manager, how can we best support you? Cathi Royer reacted on thisCathi Royer reacted on this“It’s a people business.” In March I had the opportunity to represent Johnson & Johnson, Inc. at USLI ’s headquarters in Wayne, Pennsylvania, as part of Fundamental First, which is a two-week program designed to get us field ready. Now a month later, I can genuinely see how impactful those two weeks at Fundamental First were in preparing me for the field. Through sessions focused on sales and marketing fundamentals, learning how to build strong relationships with agents, understanding the basics of insurance, and working through real-world scenarios everything was practical and immediately applicable. One of the biggest highlights was the opportunity to sit down with industry leaders like Tom Nerney and hear firsthand their thoughts on growth, leadership, and long-term success. That kind of access is rare and adds a completely different level of perspective. Beyond the sessions, what stood out were the people. The connections made, the shared experiences, and the willingness from everyone to support each other’s development. A month later, I can confidently say it did what it was designed to do, build a strong foundation and prepare me to step into the field ready to learn, adapt, and grow. Grateful for the opportunity and excited to keep building from here.

“Flexibility is key.” 🗝️ In December's issue of Voluntary Benefits Voice by Voluntary Advantage, Michelle Lockhart of PetPartners Pet Insurance shares how employers can design pet insurance benefits that align with their workforce in a way that’s cost-effective and easy to implement. "Through OnePack Plan’s “One Group, One Policy, One Rate” model, every employee receives the same flat rate regardless of their pet’s age, breed, or location. That’s a major shift from direct-to-consumer pet insurance, where pricing can vary widely from pet to pet." Read the full article here → https://bit.ly/3N94c1u

What leaders can learn from Tricia Griffith at Progressive Insurance... Tricia Griffith's leadership at Progressive Insurance illustrates why today's executives must blend analytical reasoning with empathy and communication. She developed from the company's entry-level claims representative to its CEO by building an organizational culture of trust and continuous improvement. Griffith emphasizes data-informed decision making, while making sure employees feel supported and valued. During her tenure, Progressive has been known for clear communication, internal innovation challenges, and a people-first approach to organizational change. She instills in teams that technology is a tool that complements human judgment rather than supplants it. This mindset helped the company remain one of the most agile players within the insurance industry. Griffith's career provides a powerful example for women seeking to lead in fields shaped by data and digital transformation. The UCCS Women in Leadership with AI Engagement Certificate extends this type of leadership by teaching students how to use AI, analytics, and modern communication strategies to build confident and resilient teams. It is a program designed for women ready to elevate their careers and influence meaningful change. Most employees think vision insurance just covers eye exams. Here's a step-by-step guide to maximizing comprehensive vision benefits for better productivity… 1️⃣ Assess Your Current Vision Benefits Usage Review claims data to see how many employees are using basic services versus comprehensive coverage. Most businesses find less than 40% utilization of available vision benefits. 2️⃣ Educate Employees on Hidden Vision Coverage Many plans cover computer glasses, safety eyewear and even partial coverage for LASIK surgery. Create simple guides showing what's actually included beyond basic exams. 3️⃣ Address Computer Eye Strain Proactively Promote blue light glasses and computer vision evaluations. Remote workers especially need support for eye strain that reduces productivity by up to 20%. When employees can see clearly and work comfortably, everyone benefits. Vision coverage is one of the most underutilized yet cost-effective ways to boost workplace productivity! #VisionBenefits #EmployeeHealth #FringeBenefitAnalysts #WorkplaceProductivity #BenefitsUtilization

Building strong relationships with remote insurance professionals takes intention—but the return is worth it. A connected remote workforce is more engaged, more productive, and more likely to stay long-term. Here are three simple ways insurance leaders can strengthen remote teams: ✔️ Encourage healthy work habits Check in to ensure remote team members are taking regular breaks, including a true lunch break. Sustainable performance starts with wellbeing. ✔️ Human-first weekly check-ins Begin meetings by asking what’s energizing your team—not just reviewing metrics. Engagement grows when people feel seen, not just managed. ✔️ Video-on team calls Requiring video (not audio-only) creates accountability, clarity, and stronger connections—especially in fully remote insurance roles. When remote workers feel valued, they stay longer, perform better, and refer other high-quality professionals—creating better outcomes for your clients and customers. ✨ At B.O.D. Services, we help insurance leaders source experienced, licensed professionals who thrive in remote environments—so teams start strong and grow stronger. #RemoteWorkforce #RemoteTeams #InsuranceStaffing #BODServices

If you’re leading a Claims team, you’re not just managing files, you’re managing emotions, pressure, and burnout. Claims leaders sit in one of the toughest seats in insurance. Every day you’re balancing: Escalated customers Emotional team members Performance metrics Constant urgency And somehow, you’re expected to stay calm, fair, and decisive, all the time. Here’s the part most claims leaders don’t hear enough: 👉 You weren’t trained for the people side of this role, you were trained for the technical one. Leadership in claims requires: • Strong communication under pressure • Confidence in difficult conversations • Emotional intelligence when emotions run high These are learned leadership skills, not personality traits. That’s why leadership growth spaces like Empower Atlantic 2026 matter, they give leaders tools, perspective, and connection with others who truly understand the weight of the role. If you’re a claims leader who wants to lead with more confidence and less daily tension, investing in your leadership development changes everything. https://lnkd.in/ePWwP3-J #InsuranceLeaderSeries #InsuranceLeadership #LeadershipDevelopment #MidLevelLeaders #EmpowerAtlantic #EA2026 #TDLeadership

Your team is looking for vision benefits- literally! Vision insurance is an often-overlooked benefit, but a surprising number of employees can benefit from it. Let's look at some numbers: 👓 75% of U.S. adults require glasses or contact lenses 📊 55% of employees say vision plans are a must-have benefit The good news? It’s affordable and easy to implement: - Plans can cost as little as $4–$8/month for single coverage - Can be offered as a voluntary benefit, meaning no extra cost to the employer - Group vision plans can start with just 1 enrolled employee It’s a small investment that can go a long way in boosting employee satisfaction, retention, and well-being. Is vision coverage part of your current benefits offering?

Did you know that offering voluntary benefits like accident insurance can actually reduce workers' compensation claims? A 2013 survey found that nearly half of companies providing these benefits reported significant drops in claims. This means employees have financial support for injuries or illnesses, which helps them return to work faster and with less stress. It’s a win-win for everyone! Who wouldn’t want a safety net that supports both the employee and the employer?
