Gold and silver have taken different paths in 2026, shaped by changing global conditions and demand trends. While both retain a longer-term investment case, Tata MF’s latest view points to some important differences investors may want to consider before deciding how to allocate.

The performance of metal ETFs depends on the state of the economy, as they invest in industrial metals. While they are expected to grow during economic expansion, they carry more risk than gold and silver ETFs.

A split reduces the per-unit price of an ETF and increases the number of units an investor owns, while the total value of the investment remains the same. It is not a taxable event and tax applies only when the investor sells the ETF units.

The Nifty India Consumption Index tracks 30 companies across sectors linked to India's consumption story, including FMCG, automobiles, telecom, and healthcare. Investors can access this theme through ETFs such as Nippon India ETF Nifty India Consumption and ICICI Pru Nifty India Consumption ETF.

Among ETFs tracking the Nifty PSU Bank Index, Nippon India ETF Nifty PSU Bank BeES is the biggest fund with assets under management (AUM) of ₹4,078 crore. It is followed by Kotak Nifty PSU Bank ETF, while DSP Nifty PSU Bank ETF is the third biggest fund in the category.

The analysis shows gold has significantly outperformed the Nifty 50 over the short term, particularly in the last one to five years. Over 10 years, both gold and the Nifty 50 have delivered broadly similar long-term returns.

Equities can be the preferred asset class as geopolitical tensions ease. Gold will continue to serve as a portfolio hedge and wealth-preservation tool, while silver may benefit from improving industrial demand but remains a relatively volatile asset.

Gold ETFs experienced a net outflow of ₹725 crore in May, marking the first month of redemptions after 13 months of inflows. Despite this, experts suggest the market sentiment towards gold remains intact, viewing the trend as a result of profit booking. Silver ETFs also faced continued outflows.

Robert Kiyosaki emphasizes personal choice in investing, advocating for direct ownership of real assets over financial products like ETFs. He argues that many investors mistakenly believe they are diversified while actually accumulating paper assets.
