Jackie, the beloved Big Bear eagle, has died after spending three weeks in intensive care, her veterinary team confirmed Monday.
According to the Ojai Raptor Center, Jackie, also known as Patient 26-519, died in the early morning hours Monday.

WATCH HERE"Throughout her time at Ojai Raptor Center, every decision was guided by the available medical evidence, her welfare, and our responsibility to do what was in her best interest," the wildlife rehabilitation organization said on social media. "Our team is heartbroken. It has been an extraordinary privilege to care for her."
Jackie was briefly moved out of the ICU on July 29, but her condition later deteriorated, prompting her return to intensive care.
By Sunday, the medical team was treating the bird for unexplained anemia. Jackie’s packed cell volume (PCV) — a measure of the proportion of red blood cells in the blood — had fallen below 6% on Saturday before rising to 9% on Sunday. According to the center, Jackie’s ideal PCV would be above 30%.
Until her last moments, Jackie received oxygen therapy, supportive treatment and around-the-clock monitoring, the Ojai Raptor Center said.
Jackie was initially found grounded on July 17 following a territorial fight with younger eagles. Veterinarians said she was likely ill before the encounter, and they have been testing to find the underlying cause ever since.
Friends of Big Bear Valley whose live cameras broadcast the births of Jackie's offspring with her partner Shadow also confirmed the death.

Jackie’s remains will be transferred into the care of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW). NBC Los Angeles has reached out to CDFW for information about what will happen to Jackie’s remains.
The center also asked the public for kindness and patience, saying it is turning off comments on its social media posts to “protect (its) staff and community during this difficult time.”
Jackie was estimated to be about 14 years old. According to the National Eagle Center, bald eagles can live 20 to 25 years in the wild.
Jackie and her partner, Shadow, along with their eaglets, became international celebrities in recent years as viewers around the world watched the pair raise their young. Their latest offspring, Sandy and Luna, hatched in April and have since fledged.
Fans have also become increasingly invested in the eagle family's well-being, taking part in community naming processes for the young birds.
