A student was hospitalized after being injured by another student during freshman orientation at a high school in Long Beach on Thursday morning, school officials and police said.
The Long Beach Police Department said it responded to the 4400 block of East 10th Street for a reported assault with a deadly weapon just before noon.

WATCH HEREThe incident occurred on Woodrow Wilson High School's campus, according to a message Principal Rebecca Suzanne Caverly sent to the school community.
The principal said one student injured another student, leaving the victim with a puncture wound. School staff immediately treated the injured student and called paramedics.
Police described the victim, who was taken to the hospital, as a teen boy with a non-life-threatening wound to his upper body.
Officials say the suspected attacker, also a teen, left before officers arrived.
More information about the victim and suspect was not immediately available. Authorities also have not said what type of weapon was used or what led to the attack.

The incident happened during freshman orientation, when incoming students were on campus ahead of the start of the new school year. LBUSD School Safety and Long Beach police responded to the campus.
District safety personnel and Long Beach police are investigating the incident. Additional patrols were deployed to the campus following the assault, according to school officials.
The motive and circumstances remain under investigation.
