Apple will hold its annual fall event on September 9 at its Cupertino headquarters. The main highlight will be the new iPhone 17 Air, which is 5.5 mm thin, slimmer than any current iPhone. The standard iPhone is 7.8 mm thick and the Pro is 8.3 mm.

Mark Gurman of Bloomberg says the thinner design may mean only one wide-angle camera instead of dual or triple setups. The iPhone 17 Air will likely have a smaller battery, which could shorten battery life, as per the report by Yahoo Finance.

    iPhone 17 Air features

Customers usually want more cameras and bigger batteries, so this may be a tough sell. IDC’s Nabila Popal pointed out Samsung’s super thin Galaxy S25 Edge didn’t sell well earlier this year. Gurman also said the iPhone 17 Air could be a step toward Apple’s foldable iPhone, planned for 2026.

Samsung used the same strategy, it launched the thin S25 Edge, then followed with the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which has sold 50% more than its predecessor. Apple will also show the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. The iPhone 17 Air will replace the iPhone Plus, which was the weakest-selling model, as stated by Yahoo Finance.

The iPhone 17 Air and iPhone 17 will use the new A19 processor, while the Pro models get the A19 Pro chip. The iPhone 17 Pro models will feature upgraded telephoto lenses and a redesigned camera bump, according to analyst Jeff Pu via MacRumors.

    Apple Watch and AirPods

The regular iPhone 17 will have a 6.3-inch screen, bigger than the iPhone 16’s 6.1-inch display. Analysts expect iPhone prices to rise by $50 to $100, especially for the Air. Apple will also launch Apple Watch Series 11 and Apple Watch Ultra 3.

The Series 11 may only get a processor update, since the Series 10 already added larger screens. The Ultra 3 could add satellite messaging and a bigger display.

Apple will also introduce a new Apple Watch SE model. AirPods 3 could arrive with heart-rate tracking, a feature already found in PowerBeats Pro 2. All updates will be revealed when CEO Tim Cook takes the stage on September 9, as mentioned in the report by Yahoo Finance.
