    Requests for permissions

This page enables administrators to handle requests for permissions on the English Wikipedia. Administrators are able to modify account creator, autopatrolled, confirmed, file mover, extended confirmed, mass message sender, new page reviewer, page mover, pending changes reviewer, rollback, and template editor rights, and AutoWikiBrowser access.

Editors wishing to request a permission flag here should do so following the procedure below. Editors requesting permissions are advised to periodically revisit the requests page, as notifications will not always be given after a decision is made. Editors should not expect their request to be answered right away and should remember to be patient when filing a request. To find out what permissions your account has, go to Special:Preferences, where your permissions are listed in the user profile tab under "Member of groups".

Requests for permissions are archived regularly; please see Wikipedia:Requests for permissions/Archive for an index of past requests.

    Permissions

    Handled here

    • Account creator (add request · view requests): The account creator flag is granted to users who are active in the request an account process. The flag removes the limit on the maximum number of new accounts that can be created in a 24 hour period. It also allows users to make accounts with names similar to other accounts. The account creator flag is only given to users who participate in the ACC process and may be removed without notice should a user's participation in the account creation process cease.
    • Autopatrolled (add request · view requests): The autopatrolled flag is granted to users who are active in the creation of new articles. This tool is granted so their creations are auto patrolled in Special:NewPages. Unlike other requests, any user may nominate an editor for Autopatrolled, even without that user's consent. A user who wishes to have this flag generally should have created at least 25 articles and must be trusted, experienced, and must have demonstrated they are familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, especially WP:BLP and Wikipedia:Notability.
    • AutoWikiBrowser (add request · view requests): AutoWikiBrowser is a semi-automated MediaWiki editor for Microsoft Windows, designed to make tedious repetitive tasks quicker and easier. It is essentially a browser that automatically opens up a new page when the last is saved. When set to do so, it suggests some changes (typically formatting) that are generally meant to be incidental to the main change. Please read the rules of use and registration requirements on the main page before requesting permission. This is not a true user right, but access needs to be granted by administrators just like other permissions. If approved, your name will be added to the CheckPage. Users with under 250 non-automated mainspace edits or 500 total mainspace edits are rarely approved. You will need to give a reason for wanting AWB access.
    • Confirmed (add request · view requests): The confirmed flag may be granted to new users who have not yet hit the threshold for autoconfirmed status. These are users who have not had both 10 edits and 4 days experience. People with this flag can upload files and edit semi-protected pages before hitting the autoconfirmed flag. Users requesting this flag must indicate clearly why they should be exempted from the customary confirmation period.
    • Event coordinator (add request · view requests): The event coordinator user right allows editors to create multiple new accounts, and to temporarily confirm accounts so that they can create new articles.
    • Extended confirmed (add request · view requests): The extended confirmed flag is normally automatically added to accounts after 500 edits and 30 days, but may be added to legitimate alternate accounts of users that already have this access. The flag allows users to edit pages under extended confirmed protection.
    • File mover (add request · view requests): The file mover user right is intended to allow users experienced in working with files to rename them, subject to policy, with the ease that autoconfirmed users already enjoy when renaming Wikipedia articles.
    • Mass message sender (add request · view requests): Mass message sender enables users to send messages to multiple users at once. This flag is given to users who have made requests for delivery in the past, clearly showing an understanding of the guidance for use.
    • New page reviewer (add request · view requests): The new page reviewer user right allows users to mark pages as patrolled and use the page curation toolbar. At administrators' discretion, the right may be accorded on a time limited basis or indefinite.
    • Page mover (add request · view requests): The page mover user right allows users experienced in working with article names to move them, subject to policy, without leaving behind a redirect. They may also move all subpages when moving the parent page(s). General guidelines include making 3,000 edits and 6 months of editing history. At administrators' discretion, the right may be accorded on a time limited basis or indefinite.
    • Pending changes reviewer (add request · view requests): The reviewer flag is granted to users who are experienced enough with Wikipedia editing and its policies for contributing to the process of reviewing articles placed under pending changes.
    • Rollback (add request · view requests): Rollback enables users to remove vandalism much more quickly and efficiently than by undoing it. Users who do not demonstrate an understanding of what constitutes capable vandalism fighting, either because they have no or little history of doing so, or show a poor ability to discern between good and bad faith edits will not be granted this right. Also, it is unlikely that editors with under 200 mainspace edits will have their request granted. For a more detailed explanation of rollback and information about when it is appropriate to use the tool, see Wikipedia:Rollback. For information about the technical details of the feature, see here.
    • Template editor (add request · view requests): The template editor flag allows users to edit protected templates and Lua modules. General guidelines for granting include making at least 1,000 edits overall (with at least 150 to templates or modules), being a registered user for over a year, and having a record of successfully proposing significant edits to several protected templates. Users should demonstrate proficiency with template syntax and an understanding of the need for caution when editing heavily-used templates.
    • Temporary account IP viewer (add request · view requests): Temporary account IP viewers are able to view the IP address information associated with temporary accounts.

    Handled elsewhere

Several permissions are requested and handled elsewhere:

    Review and removal of permissions

The requests for permissions process is not used to review or remove user rights:

The bureaucrat, checkuser, and oversight permissions are removed at meta:Steward requests/Permissions. Stewards will typically not carry out such requests unless they are made on behalf of the Arbitration Committee, by a user who is requesting their own access be removed, or in cases of an emergency.

    Process

    Requestors

To make a request for a permission, click "add request" next to the appropriate header and fill in the reason for wanting the permission.

    Administrators

Administrators are permitted to grant account creator, autopatrolled, confirmed, event coordinator, file mover, mass message sender, new page reviewer, page mover, pending changes reviewer, rollback and template editor flags to any user who meets the criteria explained above and can be trusted not to abuse the tool(s). Administrators may either grant these permissions permanently or temporarily. For convenience, a bot will automatically comment with relevant data if the user does not meet configurable qualifications. Even if the bot does not comment, administrators should review the user's contributions and logs to ensure the tools will be used appropriately and check for any indication of potential misuse.

Once an administrator has granted a permission or decided to deny a request, they should add {{done}} or {{not done}} respectively under the request with their comments. If a user already has the requested permission, or is autoconfirmed and requesting confirmed, {{already done}} should be used. N hours after the last comment was made (as specified by the config), the request will be archived automatically: approved requests will be placed here; declined requests will go here. See User:MusikBot/PermClerk#Archiving for more information on archiving functionality.

    Other editors

Requests for permissions is primarily intended for editors requesting a permission for their own account. Other editors are welcome to comment if they have specific information that is relevant to that request that a patrolling administrator is unlikely to discover for themselves. Otherwise, since only administrators can effectively respond to these requests, general comments or 'clerking' by other users are rarely helpful. Non-administrators cannot "decline" to grant a request, because they're not in a position to accept it.

A limited exception to this is Wikipedia:Requests for permissions/Autopatrolled, where third party nominations are encouraged. Other editors should still avoid offering general remarks on requests and leave the final decision to an administrator.

    Autopatrolled

Hello! I formally request the Autopatrolled user right. I'm a regular user of Wikipedia, both in Turkish and English. I have contributed to the Turkish Wikipedia, particularly on the Tao-Klarjeti region. I have also started to transfer these contributions to the English Wikipedia. I think it would be good to reduce the workload involved in reviewing the items I have written. Thank you. --ႧႤႧႰႨ ႾႠႰႨ (talk) 15:32, 15 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I have been editing Wikipedia since 2006, have created numerous new articles, edited countless others, and am very familiar with its policies. Λeternus (talk) 12:46, 20 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I've periodically patrolled Michelangelo1992's articles, and consistently found them to be in good shape. Focused on books as a topic area and very clear familiarity with WP:NBOOK. He's created 135 articles. ~ L 🌸 (talk) 22:56, 21 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Michelangelo1992: I'm a little concerned about overly lengthy quotations. Would you commit to summarizing quotations a bit more? Also, see MOS:SAID. voorts (talk/contributions) 03:24, 31 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the feedback! I’ve always trended toward direct quotes to avoid concerns for original research, but I can make an effort to paraphrase more in the future while still citing the original source. I’ll also try to be more mindful of WP:SAID. I thought I was doing fairly well with this, but I am always open to feedback particularly if you have specific suggestions relating to recent articles. Thank you! Michelangelo1992 (talk) 14:37, 3 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I've had more than 13 years of experience editing Wikipedia, and I've created over 30 articles in that time (not counting redirects and disambigs). I used to have this user right, and I would like to have it back, as I think it would be great to take my page creations off the backlog. I'm going to be doing some more content creation, even if not immediately. I've also written a handful of GAs, so I have a pretty good understanding of WP content policies. Thanks. LightandDark2000 🌀 (talk) 09:13, 28 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I believe part of the reason the inactivity period was instituted was to ensure the editors reapplying for autopatrolled would continue to demonstrate familiarity with the community's expectations of content, which might have changed since it was previously granted to them. With that said, it might be helpful for the granting administrator to be able to review some of your more recent articles after you've created them, since XTools says your last creation was in 2022. This is very much a passing comment from a non-administrator, however. TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 23:09, 28 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Done, I'll do something unorthodox here since there are no recent articles to evaluate here (the last article creation was in 2021 -- and I have no concerns with your previous creations). I'm giving you the AP right until the end Jan 2026, once that period is over, you can re-request the right and admin can evaluate a few recent creations and extend the full right. Confirmed

I would like to request to be manually confirmed in order to be able to translate pages that aren't in English to English. I am a native speaker of both English and German and have a native level of Spanish. I have experience in translation and made this account because it came to my attention that the page for Laurent Simons [de] does not exist in English Wikipedia. However, in order to translate it from German I need to be confirmed.

Thank you for considering my request. Whenlifegivesyoumapletrees(you sit under them) 17:05, 25 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Not done. You need to be extended confirmed, not autoconfirmed to use the translation tool. If you wish to use the tool you will need to reach that userright naturally, but the right you are requesting is the wrong one anyway. CoconutOctopus talk 16:55, 1 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason for requesting confirmed rights I would like to update my father's Wikipedia page to contain more information about his life. Tlfarah (talk) 19:16, 30 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Tlfarah: Your request here does not make it clear what page you want to edit, nor why you would need "Confirmed" level permission to edit that page. Most pages do not require this. Also, I strongly suggest that you read WP:COI and properly declare your conflict of interest before proceeding further. - Jmabel | Talk 00:03, 1 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    New page reviewer

I’ve already created a few articles and I often check new pages for sourcing, notability, and overall quality. I also help out in AfD discussions when I can, mostly to look at whether topics meet notability and if the sources are solid. I enjoy helping new editors fix their pages and guiding them on what needs improvement. Since I’m already active in this area, I’d like to take a more direct role in keeping the new pages feed clean and helping page creators understand the basics. Becoming a reviewer would let me contribute more effectively. Thanks for considering my request! Acrom12 (talk) 11:57, 18 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello to the reviewer! I've noticed the large backlog and would like to help make some progress with patrolling pages, mainly redirects. I have some previous experience in the article for creation space, creating my own articles, and creating my own redirects. I try to help new incoming editors, including mentoring my current partner and teaching them how to use the features of Wikipedia. I'm capable of catching content that probably shouldn't belong on Wikipedia, but also helping new users expand draft articles.

I participate in AfD, though my suggestions are often rejected; I consider this a skill that I am still learning. It's worth noting that I have never misused speedy deletion or other non-discussion deletion methods; my usage of these has been successful when I have applied them. Even still, my knowledge of AfC and redirects provides me with a good basis to use this right.

Thank you, and please ask any questions you may have. aaronneallucas (talk) 05:12, 20 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I've been editing a while and over recent years have been helping mostly with WP:Ukraine-related topics and pages. Having done research on Ukraine on and off-wiki, I would like to extend the help to review new Ukraine and related page creations. I have 7 successful FL nominations (one was a joint-nomination), 1 successful GA (Prelude to the Russian invasion of Ukraine) and 1 unsuccessful (NAFO). Thanks in advance and feel free to ping me with questions/comments. Dan the Animator 01:57, 24 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I am requesting the New Pages Patrol right.

I have 4,000+ edits, including over 2,500 in mainspace and 500+ article creations. My work has given me solid experience with core content policies, particularly notability GNG, reliable sourcing, verifiability, and BLP compliance. I also participate in AfD discussions and review drafts, which has strengthened my understanding of how these policies apply to new pages.

I would like to support the community by helping maintain the quality of new articles, identifying issues early, and guiding new editors toward constructive contributions. I have no blocks or sanctions.

Thank you for considering my request. Sweetabena (talk) 18:32, 26 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    Page mover

Hi, I'm LightandDark2000. I have over 13 years of editing Wikipedia, and I'm quite familiar with the page move policies, and other relevant policies on move discussions. I used to have this user right, and since I plan to continue editing periodically, I would like to have this permission back. I was able to use this permission to fight page-move vandalism, handle problematic draft moves and article titles (including my own screwups), and manage my own userspace, and I believe I may have used it after closing some move discussions (although I don't remember when the last time that was). Page-Mover would make my work a lot easier when I need it, instead of having to rely on admins, and I will make good use of the tool. Thanks. LightandDark2000 🌀 (talk) 09:21, 28 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@LightandDark2000 I'm inclined to grant, but since your return from inactivity you have made no page moves, nor have you edited RM/TR – could you please give an example of a recent case where pagemover would have been helpful, but you had to ask for help instead? Toadspike [Talk] 09:47, 28 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I haven't requested any moves yet since my return, but here is one example where I would've found it useful (a recent screwup). I got around that by simply creating another redirect at the right target. LightandDark2000 🌀 (talk) 09:50, 28 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    Template editor

This is a non-traditional request as I'm a former admin who hasn't had any particular need to edit [protected templates since my desysopping (though I was a little surprised that I was able to make edits to stub templates like this_, but this user right might become useful to me soon. I'm interested in monitoring the output of the very new User :CSD U6 Bot (also see this discussion for background) and rather than asking for edits to its fully protected ignore list, I thought it would be easier if the page could be template-protected and I (and perhaps other non-admin template editors) could make additions to it). I started a discussion about this at User talk:CSD U6 Bot/Ignore list#Making this page template-protected, etc.? (feel free to contribute to it). The bot owner, Anomie, is unwilling to act unilaterally and sent me to this page, so here I am. When I was an admin I occasionally made accessibility-related edits to protected templates, like this case with fraction and conversion templates/modules. I have a healthy fear of editing highly used templates and would always test any changes in the ssandbox first. I'm one of only two importers and I have a strong and unique password for Wikipedia. I was advised I might qualify for this, and have decided to do so now that I'm finding it increasingly difficult to identify TA "evidence". For example, the tool would have come in handy at that linked discussion, also at this SPI and most recently today. I undertand the legal implications supporting this right—basically a similar spirit that controls the linking of IPs and accounts at SPI, in a nutshell?—the balance between discretion and disclosure, and have made myself conversant with WP:TAIV; I am also aware that the patrolling admin is permitted to decline applicants who meet these criteria but are otherwise unsuitable for access to this tool.
