At Agoda, our platform is powered by a growing Kotlin microservices stack. When our review-api service started showing sudden spikes in CPU, memory, and thread usage, what looked like a single performance problem turned out to be three separate issues hiding in the same system. In our latest post, Sandeep Kumar, Staff Software Engineer at Agoda, explores how Pyroscope helped us uncover each layer and bring resource usage down by 5x. Read now: ago-da.co/4cXinAk #techatagoda

Agoda is turning 21 this May! 🎂🥳 To celebrate, we're bringing back our annual birthday sale, and you're invited. From May 3 – 21, enjoy up to 60% off on accommodation, flights, and activities worldwide. On May 19, our actual birthday, a special flash sale takes it up to 70% off. This is our way of saying thank you for 21 years. Because none of this would have been possible without every traveler and every employee who's been part of the journey. 🙌

“Before joining Agoda, I worked as a Software Engineer at the United Nations, a role that first brought me to Bangkok. During COVID, I returned to my home country, Bangladesh, and spent two years working remotely. Having already experienced life in Bangkok, I knew it was where I wanted to return. I joined Agoda in August 2022, and what makes tech at Agoda particularly exciting is the scale and complexity of the systems. With heavy data processing and constant challenges to solve and optimize, Agoda provides endless opportunities for innovation and growth in a dynamic and collaborative environment. Professionally, Agoda has helped me grow by allowing me to work within complex systems that influence other systems, fostering my technical skills through thorough analysis before implementing any changes. The company also emphasizes a lot on the data-driven mindset, so we know what we are working on is meaningful and no decisions are taken lightly. Outside of work, I love playing football. I’ve joined a football team here, and we regularly play 90-minute games on weekends, which has been a great way to stay active and connect with others. My other hobbies include drone photography, working out, traveling, watching TV series, spending time with friends, and board game nights, which are always a fun way to connect with others and unwind. Bangkok’s vibrant lifestyle ensures there’s always something to do, based on your interests! What I enjoy most about living in Bangkok is that it truly offers something for everyone. As a Muslim, I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how accepting the community is and by the availability of halal food and restaurants across Thailand. It’s also incredibly easy to prepare meals at home or get food outside for a cheap price, making daily life convenient and enjoyable.” - Shahed Bin Satter moved from Bangladesh to Bangkok in 2020. Curious about life in Bangkok? We asked our expat colleagues to share their experiences living in the vibrant city and working at a travel-tech leader like Agoda as part of our "Agodans in Bangkok" series. Celebrating a successful Agoda Tech Camp Day! 👩🏻💻 Last week, we hosted the tenth edition of Tech Camp Day, our ongoing tech‑focused social impact initiative, at UCSI University and INTI International College in Kuala Lumpur! This marked the second time Tech Camp Day has been held in Malaysia and the first time we ran the program across two universities there. Over two days, we shared practical AI use cases with more than 200 students, showing how AI can be a powerful learning companion and how we apply it at Agoda. We welcomed a more diverse cohort than before, including students from non‑technical faculties eager to become tech‑savvy. In the same week, we also donated over 170 laptops to Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) to support students from underprivileged backgrounds in expanding their access to learning and digital tools! “Prior to joining Agoda, I worked in management consulting and later at a small tech startup. I was looking for international experience in the tech industry, along with the opportunity to relocate and explore the world. Agoda offered the perfect blend of a global work environment, innovative projects, and the chance to travel throughout Asia. Agoda’s work environment is special because of its emphasis on innovation and data-driven decision-making. The culture is collaborative, and there’s a strong focus on personal learning. For my role, the ability to work on challenging projects with talented colleagues from around the world makes every day rewarding. Agoda also offers various employee benefits. My favorite one is definitely the Remote Work program. It allows me to work from anywhere in the world for up to 30 days each year, which is a fantastic perk. I’ve used it to visit my relatives and friends, and it’s made it much easier to stay connected with them while still staying productive at work. Bangkok is vibrant, dynamic, and very sunny. Its energy and cultural diversity are truly unique. Outside of work, I really enjoy spending time at Benchakitti Park in Bangkok—it’s a great place to relax and unwind on the weekends. I’ve also visited Khao Yai National Park, which is just a few hours’ drive from the city. It’s one of my favorite places to escape the hustle and bustle of Bangkok and enjoy some time in nature surrounded by greenery. I also love traveling to different parts of Thailand and Asia on holiday, discovering new places and experiencing the region's beauty and diversity.” - Yaroslav Drokin moved from France and the Netherlands to Bangkok in 2024.
