It's well known how these 'miracle' drugs address obesity. But cancer too? Perhaps,yes. Check out the latest interview from my favorite expert on this subject, Melanie Jay, MD, MS .Alan Stein shared thisGLP-1s cure cancer? Thank you, Indira Lakshmanan for interviewing me on WBUR's Here & Now. The short answer is - no, we can’t say that yet. But there is some early signs that it might prevent cancer and slow its growth. More research is needed. Although the title focuses on GLP-1 medications and cancer, our 9-minute conversation covered so much more. We discussed what we are learning about possible connections between GLP-1s and cancer, including the potential roles of: • Weight loss and improved metabolic health • Improving insulin sensitivity and growth-factor signaling • Lower inflammation • Changes in immune function We also talked about equitable access to these medications, disparities in who receives them, side effects, and the importance of adequate clinical and nutritional support to prevent malnutrition and excessive loss of muscle. Alan Stein shared thisMy mom didn't just want me to do "okay." She wanted me to shoot for the moon. Growing up, Sharon always challenged me to do my best and reach for the most prestigious heights possible. I’ll be honest: that kind of expectation creates real pressure. But looking back at age 52, I realize that pressure was a gift. That drive is what got me into a competitive Clinical Psychology PhD program. It’s what pushed me to earn my MBA from a top-tier business school. And it’s what gave me the confidence to aim high and land a leadership role at Google. She taught me that aiming high creates optionality. When you build a foundation of excellence, you have more choices when life hits a turning point. Lately, I’ve been navigating one of those points. I made the difficult decision to wind down Kadima Careers and put a pause on my entrepreneurial path. Even as I transition into an uncertain "what’s next," my mom has been right there with the same love and encouragement she’s provided through every up and down. She's the reason I know how to get back up. I’m no longer running a company, but I still live by the concept of "kadima". It means "forward." Whether I'm at a desk in a massive tech titan or building something from scratch, I’m always moving ahead because she taught me how to find joy in the pursuit of a goal. I'm incredibly grateful for the character she instilled in me. It’s the kind of resilience that no job title can give you and no layoff can take away. She knows her stuff and breaks down the information in ways that the general public can understand.Alan Stein shared thisCurious about GLP-1 pills? My op-ed is out in Katie Couric Media on this next major advance in obesity treatment. For years, the most effective new obesity medications, including Wegovy and Zepbound, have been injections. But now pills are entering the picture, including oral semaglutide and orforglipron. In the piece, I explain: • How GLP-1 pills work • How oral Wegovy (offered by Novo Nordisk) differs from orforglipron (offered by Eli Lilly and Company) • What we know so far about weight loss outcomes • Common side effects and safety concerns • Why pills may improve convenience and access • Why they may also increase misuse and abuse, cosmetic use, and inadequate medical supervision I’m excited that patients have more options. A daily pill could be easier for people who dislike needles, travel frequently, or have difficulty managing injections. But a pill is still a powerful medicine and should not be marketed as cosmetic shortcuts, “longevity” hacks, or quick fixes. They should be used for the right medical reasons, with good clinical support, and with a long-term plan focused on health. See link below for the piece in Katie Couric's newsletter.

These last few months I’ve had to do things I haven’t done since I first came into this league. Show up early. Stay late. Take every rep I could get. Do the little things. Put pride and ego to the side and prove all over again that I belong here. And I think there’s a lesson in that no matter what you do in life. Never get too big to do the small things. Never let what you’ve already accomplished make you think you don’t have anything left to prove. And never be afraid to start from the bottom again if it means getting another shot at something you love. People can count you out. They can decide your best days are behind you. That’s THEIR opinion... You still get to decide when you’re done. I wasn’t done n still not. MY HEART BLEED BLUE 🤞🏾

Alan Stein liked thisAlan Stein liked thisScott Galloway predicts that in three years, everyone will be taking GLP-1s. I told him I think he’s getting ahead of the evidence. I had the chance to join Scott on Prof G for a great conversation about where GLP-1 medications are headed. We covered: • Should healthy people without obesity or other risk factors take GLP-1s for potential benefits like longevity, cognition, or reducing inflammation? • Why do so many people stop taking them? • Why does real-world weight loss often fall short of what we see in clinical trials? • What does good care alongside these medications actually look like? • And what worries me about unregulated peptides and “peptide stacking” On the first question, we simply don’t know yet whether the benefits outweigh the risks for healthy people without other risk factors. I suspect it will be several years before we do. I personally will not be starting one in the next 3 years. And a fun postscript: after we stopped recording, Scott told me he’d had to bite his tongue because he wanted to make Julius Erving jokes. Dr. J was his favorite basketball player growing up.🏀 And for everyone who voted in my pre-interview post: the orange blazer won over the blue and the glasses stayed. 😊 You also gave me many great questions we didn’t have time to get to, but Scott said he’d like to have me back, so maybe I’ll have another chance. Alan Stein liked thisAlan Stein liked thisI realize that only a few people care (because most of you follow me for leadership and management stuff), but after getting feedback from film/TV industry pros and regular people (who like movies and TV), I am now copyrighting our screenplay. Lawyer retained, application fee paid, some background quitclaims secured, and she's ready to press submit today! Some of the comments I received from people who have generously given their time: Industry Pros + "This is the screenplay of the year." + "We are due for another Dumb and Dumber. Been a long time, and that's what this most reminds me of." + "The guys who did Dumb and Dumber and Kingpin would love this." + "A24 would love this." - "It's too over the top." - "It's too long." Regular People + "Oh my God I love these guys." + "Is this Hangover meets Family guy?" + "I love a story where the characters are all a little despicable, but you love them anyway and find yourself wanting the best for them." + "I picked it up intending to just get started, light reading before bed, and 2 hours later, I finished up. Absolutely could not put it down." - "I can't relate to your characters at all." Overall it is a story that honors lifelong friendship, while exploring themes of group mythology and pathology. Each one of the primary ensemble is mostly, but never fully, functional in their individual lives, but together, they are, well, kind of a shitshow. Along the way it gently mocks corporate decision making rituals, religion (very gently), and modern technology. Lots of physical comedy, too. I am aware the probability that it becomes a film is low, but it is nonetheless exciting to try. Writing it with a couple friends was a blast. Next up: try to get an agent and after we get the copyright, submit to screenplay contests.

Thanks to everyone who was along for the ride - couldn’t have done it without you - so many good memories. It’s now time for golf, fishing, gardening, traveling and whatever else I feel like doing. And knowing me, probably a side hustle. 😊

Instead of getting defensive or reactive, she deals with the questions with “country class.” She literally owns who she is! Think about how you might incorporate this calm approach when you’re challenged at work or dealing with a difficult colleague. What an icon, and what an inspiration to anyone told to be someone other than themselves. In 1978, Barbara Walters asked her on camera whether the right word for her family was "hillbilly." One of the best answers I have ever seen. Dolly didn't deny it and didn't get angry. She kept the word and rewrote what it meant: proud people, country class, good common sense. She did the same with her appearance, saying she would never stoop so low as to be fashionable. I call it the label upgrade. You don't argue with the label, you fill it with something better. Rest in peace, Dolly.

I am the head coach for twelve boys. We're in the fourth season,improving each season. First season, we were 0-9-1, with the first game getting our superhero undies handed to us, 72-0. Next season, we finished a solid 6-4, including beating the undefeated Saints on the last game of the 2013 season, winning 15-7, 2014 is starting strong with a 64-00, 34-12 and 22-8 three game winning streak. I couldn't do it without my OC Coach Rumble and DC Coach Campanelli and Special Teams Coach Travis.

I like Bret's more positive take on the "saaspocolypse" and how today's software companies can embrace AI to transform. The value in established software companies is the domain knowledge of their customers and industry workflows. Interesting how Sierra is doing outcome-based pricing and not just tokenized consumption. In 30 years we've gone from perpetual licensing, to subscription per user per month, to token consumption and now outcome-based pricing.
