Thomas Walle posted thisToo many data companies overlook this: 👉 Time to Value is everything. Clients don’t want to wait 3–6 months to see results. They want to plug in and get value fast. At Unacast, Bridget Anderson and Benjamin Erdtmann, MBA have made this a priority - faster onboarding, clear use cases, and helping clients show wins early. It builds trust and momentum from day one. If you’re selling data, this should be your #1 focus.

🎧 Lytt til episoden her: https://lnkd.in/dhZzU6MQ

Thomas Walle posted thisLocation data is messy. AI doesn’t like messy. The future of location intelligence isn’t just about more data, it’s about better structure. Our team has, for a while, been pairing high-quality mobility data with generative AI to unlock faster insights for our clients. AI is only as smart as the data foundation it’s built on. So we’re doubling down on: - Semantic models that make sense of foot traffic - Standardized formats that reduce friction - Governance to ensure accuracy and reliability The result? Smarter recommendations, faster decisions—and less guesswork for our clients and users that rely on people movement.

Thomas Walle shared this🚫 The era of ‘data dumping’ is over. 🚫 In today’s data-rich landscape, simply handing over raw datasets isn’t enough. Businesses crave insights, context, and strategic guidance. Here’s how we at Unacast think about it.

Thomas Walle shared this🚨 The age of data dumping is over. Just handing off massive files of data and hoping the customer figures it out? That playbook is done to me. What companies need today are real partners, people who can help ask the right questions, guide the process, and deliver insights that actually drive outcomes. At Unacast, we’ve made that shift. We're in the trenches with our customers. 👉 Here’s how we think about it: https://lnkd.in/eM6bHjz7From Vendor to Partner: Why the Age of Data Dumping Is OverFrom Vendor to Partner: Why the Age of Data Dumping Is Over

Billions of signals, each with different formats and levels of accuracy. Cleaning, normalizing, enriching, it’s a full-time job before you even get to the insights. That’s why we built Unacast the way we did. To take raw data and turn it into something your team can actually use. Fast. Compliant. Reliable. Location data should be an accelerant, not an obstacle. We handle the heavy lifting so your team can stay focused on building.

Thomas Walle liked thisThomas Walle liked thisThis picture means more to me than it probably looks like. For the past three years, FlexBeam has been available to players at the US Open through the athlete recovery room run by Recover. This year, that relationship reached a new level. The USTA selected FlexBeam as the player gift for 300 players competing at the tournament. For a small Norwegian company like ours, that's a pretty special moment. Not because of the number itself, but because of how it happened. We didn't arrive at the US Open through a sponsorship deal. FlexBeam found its way into the recovery room because people working directly with some of the world's best athletes believed it could be useful there. A lot of the credit goes to Marc Violone and the team at Recover, who have used FlexBeam with players at the US Open for several years and recommended us. Their work has since expanded to other major stages in tennis, including Roland Garros and Wimbledon. And then there is the person in this picture. Casper Ruud was one of the first people to believe in what we were building, and became our first brand ambassador. Seeing him sitting in the US Open recovery room using FlexBeam, while hundreds of players at the tournament receive one of their own, feels like one of those rare full-circle moments. To us, it is truly gratifying to see FlexBeam chosen, used and recommended in environments where performance really matters. Thank you Marc, Recover NYC, Casper, and everyone on the journey who has helped FlexBeam get here. And good luck to all US Open players this year!

Thomas Walle liked thisThomas Walle liked thisMy excitement has been growing the last few weeks: an OpenOcean portfolio company just rewrote the rulebook for what a European deep tech IPO is! In July, IQM Quantum Computers listed on Nasdaq New York and Nasdaq Helsinki, on back-to-back days - the first European quantum company to go public, and only the third Finnish company ever to pull off a dual listing. The bigger story isn't the SPAC structure. It is that IQMX proved you don't have to relocate to Delaware or the Bay Area to access serious US capital. It built a best of breed superconducting quantum system, recruited world-class talent across 12 international sites with the engineering core in Europe, built category leading commercial traction , and only then chose to list in the US without moving it's center of gravity there. For European founders, the lesson is: build the syndicate and the business before you need the listing, so going public is a choice made from strength. Turns out you actually can be in two places at once. Take note, Schrödinger's cat. Link to the full story and breakdown in the comments 👇

Thomas Walle liked thisThomas Walle liked thisI haven't gone looking for a report in months. I just ask. Somewhere between meetings, my habits changed. Claude has become my EA in everything but the job title. A pipeline summary waits for me before my first call. When a deal moves or goes quiet, an alert fires before anyone has to tell me. Deal reviews come with the MEDDPICC gaps already flagged. And I built myself a Forecast Coverage Cockpit that answers the questions I used to chase through spreadsheets. Where do we stand against the number? Where are the red flags? How are deals actually converting stage to stage? Are we efficient where it counts? Seconds, not all the tabs. My team has noticed. I admitted recently that I spend a lot of time with Claude. Or as I call him, Klause. One of our product managers turned me into a poster (see below). Fair. When your team can roast the CRO, you're doing something right. So when our product team shipped Pulse AI, I recognized the behavior immediately. A store manager mid-shift asks how conversion is tracking against the same day last week. A regional lead asks which stores underperformed and by how much, and walks into Monday's call with the answer instead of spending twenty minutes building it. No hunting for the right report. No waiting on the analytics team. Ask the question where it occurs to you, get the answer from your own measured data, act while it still matters. The speed is the obvious win. The real one is reach. Anyone can ask a useful question on day one, including the folks who only log in occasionally. More people asking better questions, faster. That changes what a team can do in a week. And Pulse AI runs on Anthropic's Claude. So Klause has a day job too, apparently. Pulse AI is included in every RetailNext subscription at no additional cost. The team wrote up how it works. Worth the read. Link in the comments. #AI #RetailAnalytics #RetailTech #Leadership Anthropic Anees A.ic Anees A.

Thomas Walle liked thisThomas Walle liked thisIs this the last decade where marketing is human-lead? That's a question I hope my panel will be able to answer me during TechBBQ next week. If there's one panel to predict it, it's this one: 👉 Laura Modiano, Head of Founder Experience at OpenAI. 👉 Elias Malm, Co-founder of Epiminds. 👉 Vasilij Brandt, Founder & CEO of KIME. Laura has seen hundreds of startups across EMEA, so she sees the patterns. Who's getting real leverage out of this, and who's just producing more content faster. Elias is former Google, built his own agency, now raised $6.6M to build agentic marketing. He knows where agents work and where they fall over. Vasilij works on getting brands visible inside ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity. Search is moving and he has the numbers on how fast it actually is. I'm somewhere in the middle of all this at Native, so I mostly plan to ask the questions I actually want answered 🤓 Really looking forward to it!! Join us at the TechBBQ Founder Stage on August 27th at 10:05. Let's gooo! 🔥

In industrial markets, the technology is rarely what fails. The commercial motion is.

Thirty years on it — operator, founder, investor — taught me the pattern I trust: when a good product stalls, the answer is almost never more features. It's the wrong motion, wrong buyer, or a price nobody tested.

What I actually do:

→ Decide the growth motion. All four built — product-led, developer-led, sales-led, partner-led; the job is knowing which mix a market will pay through.
→ Build industry verticals from nothing — three times; the first became the template.
→ Price and package recurring revenue (ARR), telecom billing to industrial software subscriptions — the commercial C-seat held through an exit as co-founder and Chief Commercial Officer.
→ Open markets through alliances: OEM channels, partner advisory councils, industrial co-creation.

The technology underneath I've worked from every side. Nurego built the monetization machinery for connected products. At GE I priced Predix, edge to cloud, across eight sectors. Five years investing in industrial automation and autonomous systems startups — robotics, machine vision, edge AI, industrial DataOps — mapped automation to autonomy. I still build: autonomous agents run the events behind Seattle's IoT Hub Meetup.

The industrial focus isn't a phase — it started when Nurego found its market in industrials and hardened in the manufacturing ecosystem: University of Washington hardware-startup events, reshoring meetups into COVID. My thesis: reshoring works when technology raises productivity across every input — energy, materials, capital, labor, services. Get it right and you build cheaper where the buying happens and hold days of inventory, not an ocean's worth.

The thesis doesn't stop at manufacturing. Every industrial sector has an operation where its money is made — the plant, the grid, the telco network, the fleet, the oilfield -on physical and digital infrastructure built over decades and costing trillions of dollars. Almost none of it built for agents and autonomy; most of it still running in 2040. Readying that brownfield installed base for the agentic era is the decade's commercial question. It belongs to whoever owns the P&L: CIOs, CDOs, CFOs, COOs, plant and operations leaders. What keeps AI out — governance, disconnected sites — is what I write and speak about.

Also: a patent, a Springer chapter, founding mentor at Creative Destruction Lab.

Building in industrial or physical AI and want a stage? The meetup is open. If good technology is stalling in industrial accounts, let's compare notes.

Swedish tech is consistently producing global winners 🔥❄️ Over the last decade, Sweden has been the origin of some of Europe’s biggest breakout outcomes: ▫️ Spotify built the modern music economy ▫️ Klarna redefined fintech and went public ▫️ iZettle sold to PayPal for $2.2B ▫️ King sold for $5.9B Now the next cohort is emerging with real velocity: ▫️ Sana acquired at $1.1B ▫️ Legora raised $150m at ~$1.8B ▫️ Modal became a unicorn ▫️ Lovable raised $330M at a $6.6 billion valuation ▫️ Epiminds raised $6.6M from Lightspeed Behind many of these early bets stands one of Sweden’s most influential investors: Creandum They backed Spotify, Klarna, Trade Republic, and more recently Lovable long before consensus formed I just interviewed Staffan Helgesson, founder of Creandum, about how they built this long game from Stockholm, how they identify outliers early, and why patience + conviction compound in ways most firms never see. AI is transformational - everyone knows that. But why restrict AI to only 1% of the workforce, who are laptop first? At EQT Ventures & Growth we set out thinking around this topic and realised that while the laptop first, 'techbro' community is very well served with AI, a large part of the economy, the 'real' economy that keeps our world moving forward is being left out. This economy is mobile first/only, does a LOT of business on their phone, and no current AI solutions cater to them. Which is when we found Maxime Germain and team, building Beside. Beside has completely rethought the 'phone', creating a Harvard grad level chief of staff that fits in your pocket. Beside answers your phone (even in your own voice, if you'd like that), books appointments, takes notes, reminds you and more to come. All built on top of a phone line. Beside also has laptop, but its phone and mobile first. This is a beautiful experience, built into a slick app out of the box. Its a killer team based on both sides of the Atlantic that has scaled revenue and their user base super quickly. Today we're thrilled to announce they're coming out of stealth with $32M in funding led by EQT Ventures & Growth, Index Ventures and stellar angels. I could not be more excited to work with them and we're privileged to be a part of the journey.

Every founder we invest in signs an Impact Pact. Written into our investment documents. Legally binding. Not as marketing. As requirement. Most impact funds talk about doing good. We structure it into every deal. The concept is simple: paying it forward. We share access to capital with founders the traditional VC ecosystem overlooks. In return, we expect our founders to pay it forward in three areas: Wealth sharing: How are you distributing ownership beyond the executive team? In 2024, our portfolio generated over $400 million in wealth creation—$342 million for BIPOC and women founders, plus $65 million in employee equity. Supplier diversity: How much spending goes to companies founded by people of color or women? Our portfolio directed $9 million to diverse suppliers last year—30% BIPOC-owned, 35% women-owned. Diversity goals: Not quotas. Intentionality. 92% of our founders are BIPOC. 81% of their employees are BIPOC. 77% of the $39.7 million in compensation went to BIPOC team members. Here's what makes this different: It's legally binding. Not in a deck. In the documents we both sign. It's specific. No vague language. Measurable commitments. It compounds. Year over year, these numbers grow because the structure demands it. The question I always get: "Does this work? Or is it virtue signaling?" Fair question. Here's the data: Our portfolio created 436 jobs in 2024 — a 48% compound annual growth rate since 2021. These aren't just any jobs. They're pathways to wealth in communities excluded from venture-backed opportunity. The paying-it-forward model creates a multiplier effect. When our founders prioritize diverse suppliers, those suppliers gain revenue and credibility that help them win more business. When our founders build inclusive teams, they tap talent pools competitors ignore. When our founders share equity broadly, retention improves and alignment deepens. Each company becomes a node in a network of shared access—not just a single investment, but a catalyst for ecosystem-wide change. Why structure impact this way? Because impact that isn't measured doesn't compound. When you invest in a founder, you're not just buying equity in one company. You're investing in their commitment to pay it forward — through the vendors they choose, the teams they build, the wealth they share. The Impact Pact ensures impact is intentional, measurable, and compounding. Returns are not concessionary. Our current Fund I: 34.8% gross IRR. 1.75x return multiple. More than two times above the median for comparable VC funds. The Impact Pact isn't altruism. It's a structured method for paying forward the access we provide and capturing the returns that come when overlooked founders get their shot. Fund II is open with the Impact Pact built into every deal. Same structure. Same accountability. Same thesis: that paying it forward isn't charity. It's alpha. If you're an LP who believes in compounding returns and compounding impact, let's talk.

Very cool with another YC-company out of Norway - Arcline (YC W26) provides AI-native legal services for startups, with same-day turnaround & elite lawyers in the loop. We are super proud at Antler having backed Arcline’s founder Pamir Ehsas from day 0. They’ve built a bench of top-tier startup lawyers to change that - folks from top schools (Harvard, Stanford, Oxford) and leading firms (Cooley, Goodwin, Fenwick). Arcline’s lawyers start with first drafts generated with AI, and then do final revisions. This ends up reducing the work by up to 80% - so startups pay elite lawyers only for the final 20%. More importantly, your legal matters can often be handled same-day. No other law firm today offers this kind of speed. In a few months, they’ve scaled to helping several Y-companies and 50+ venture-backed startups across the US and Nordics. Discover Arcline: arcline-ai.com Congrats on the launch, Pamir Ehsas + Stefan Mandaric!

Huge Advance for PE & Turnaround Work: SuperQwen3.8-27B-abliterated is live Private equity firms, independent sponsors and turnaround specialists can now run a frontier multimodal model fully offline, uncensored and private on a single high-end GPU. Deploy it inside portfolio companies to compress the entire turnaround and ops-improvement loop: local agents continuously ingest ERP data, production dashboards, quality reports and shop-floor photos, surface root causes, simulate cost and throughput scenarios, and generate prioritized actions, without data ever leaving the firewall or creating your competition. Weekly PDCA cycles become daily feedback loops. Key numbers: • 27B dense (native multimodal) • Refusal 56.25% → 0% • Overthinking fixed (36/36 pass) • 262K native → verified 1M context • Capability maintained, tool-calling + vision intact • Apache 2.0 Jun Song’s Super-tune repaired abliteration weight damage with an agent swarm and eliminated classic overthinking loops, delivering a clean, decisive model instead of another broken uncensored release. Hardware reality: • Q4/NVFP4/MLX-4bit (~15-19 GB) runs on a single 24 GB card • Higher quants need 32-48 GB • Full BF16 ~52 GB Download BF16, GGUF, NVFP4 or MLX versions on Hugging Face (Jiunsong/SuperQwen3.8-27b-abliterated). I’m loading the GGUF for semi-automated, local moat building right now. What's your biggest bottleneck right now: reducing costs, increasing sales, or figuring out how to expand the moat? #PrivateEquity #Turnaround #OperationalExcellence #OpenSourceAI #LocalLLM #Qwen #AIAgents
