A party with a peace-out theme, and plenty of woofer-inspired Woodstock whimsy, feels like just the right way to raise funds for a venerable Southern California pet rescue.

It's Dogs Without Borders, a canine-championing organization that is trotting into its first Woodstock-themed party.

The Saturday-sweet celebration is taking its cool cues from the iconic music festival, with a workshop devoted to flower crowns and collars, live tunes, and VW Microbus backdrop made for photo moments.

A colorful line-up of dog-themed vendors will also visit Dog Urban Den Retreat Oct. 10, along with a pet photographer; pet readings will also up the positive vibes.

The vibes will be enhanced by the raffle and auction action, which will support Dogs Without Borders and its countless efforts to place Southern California pups in loving homes.

In addition to purchasing your Woofstock ticket, there are several uplifting ways to honor National Dog Day, which is celebrated on Aug. 26.

LA Animal Services shared a special message on the hound-happy holiday, along with a reminder that thousands of animals need a home, and a chance at a new life, around our region.

"Dogs have an incredible way of bringing happiness and comfort into our lives and we owe them a debt of gratitude for their unconditional love," said Gabrielle Amster, General Manager for LA Animal Services.

"National Dog Day gives us a wonderful opportunity to celebrate these amazing pets and recognize the special bond we share with them."
