The famous fall festivals that happily haunt our region are still in the future, but there are ways to colorfully connect with autumn, in an outdoorsy, family-fun spirit, around Southern California.

WATCH HEREOne of the loveliest routes to early fall fun takes place in Moorpark each August, or, should we say, begins to bloom: The zinnia is now in full and colorful form at Underwood Family Farms.
But these fall-perfect blossoms aren't just for admiring; you can go pick all of the zinnias you like, should you want to get a joyful jump on the zinnia-est season. (Just check the prices on the pick-your-own page before you go, of course.)
Soon, the farm's zinnia crop will be joined by the true powerhouse of fall, a flower seen in profusion at every Day of the Dead festivity: the marvelous and mythical marigold.
Marigolds aren't popping as of mid-August, but an Underwood representative says they'll be adding a gorgeous orange hue to the farm soon, so do keep an eye on the Moorpark destination's social media pages.
The pick-your-own zinnias should bloom through November but do check the site before making for Moorpark.

The homespun happening runs daily through Oct. 31 and a series of special themed weekends add to the atmosphere. Weekends are busy, for sure, and you'll need to purchase those tickets in advance online.
