When You'll Receive Your Social Security Payment?
If you only receive Social Security (not SSI) and your birthday falls between the 11th and 20th of any month, your payment is scheduled for today, Wednesday, August 20, as per the report.Here’s how the payment dates work based on your birthdate:
- Birthdate from the 1st to 10th of any month: Paid on the second Wednesday — August 13
- Birthdate from the 11th to 20th of any month: Paid on the third Wednesday — today, August 20
- Birthdate from the 21st to 31st of any month: Paid on the fourth Wednesday — August 27

How Much Can You Get From Social Security in 2025?
While the maximum monthly Social Security check can be as high as $5,108 in 2025, only a small number of people receive that much, according to the report. To qualify for the max benefit, someone would need to have worked and paid into Social Security for at least 35 years, hit the income cap in most of those years, and waited until age 70 to start collecting, as per the HT report.Most people receive lesser amounts as it the payment depends on your earnings history, how long you worked, and the age you started claiming benefits, according to the report.

- $967 for an eligible individual
- $1,450 for an eligible married couple
- $484 for an essential person

Social Security Overpayments: Could Your Check Be Reduced?
A February 2025 report by the SSA's Office of the Inspector General revealed that the SSA overpaid around $13.6 billion in benefits between 2020 and 2023, according to the report.
