    Thanks to the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) for the opportunity to share Google’s work applying AI to advance cancer research, treatment, care, and cures. This talk was personal for me; I offered my perspective both as someone privileged to work with amazing scientists driving solutions and as a cancer survivor. AI is accelerating scientific breakthroughs, supporting better clinical delivery and outcomes, and strengthening cybersecurity in an era of rising healthcare data breaches. From tools that aid early detection and treatment decisions, to agentic AI that helps clinicians stay current with the latest guidelines, we are already seeing powerful examples of what AI is making possible in healthcare. As Dr. Clifford Hudis, CEO of ASCO, my oncologist and friend once said to me: “AI is a critical part of democratizing healthcare – so that everyone, everywhere can have access to the best insights” that are invaluable to achieving the best outcomes.     Can AI help save bees? Using Google’s TensorFlow, Kansas State University entomologist Brian Spiesman created BeeMachine, an app that can recognize bee species from uploaded user images. From his learnings, he developed a curriculum to help train future entomologists how to apply AI to their work.     It was great to be in Cedar Rapids today to announce Google will be investing an additional $7B in Iowa – a meaningful increase in the pace of Google’s investments in Iowa – to support cloud and AI infrastructure, as well as funding to support expanded workforce development for Iowans. For the past two decades, Google’s data centers, products and services have helped support Iowa’s local economies while helping businesses across the country compete globally. The promise of AI depends on how deeply and widely it reaches, and Google is proud to enable a new era of American innovation with its investments in technical infrastructure in Iowa and across the U.S. A huge thanks to Governor Kim Reynolds, Senator Joni Ernst, Representative Ashley Hinson and Mayor Tiffany O'Donnell for their leadership and our work together.

AI plays a crucial role in the fight against scams and fraud, allowing us to accelerate the detection of abuse, generate insights, and scale our efforts against harm on Google’s platforms. In October 2024, we announced a new partnership to launch the Global Signal Exchange (GSE), a collaborative effort to pool resources and expertise in the fight against scams.
