The Biggest Loser (Netflix): The Biggest Loser documentary has found a significant audience on Netflix. The three-part series surpassed Wednesday season 2 as the No. 1 show this week. This whodunit trades grisly violence for irresistible charm, powered by an all-star lineup of some of Britain’s finest actors. Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kingsley, and Celia Imrie play a witty band of retirees whose love of puzzles suddenly turns serious when a real murder rocks their quiet retirement community. As the body count threatens to rise, the unlikely sleuths race to uncover the killer’s identity before it’s too late. Think Agatha Christie meets The Golden Girls—sharp, funny, and endlessly entertaining.

Extant season 1 (Netflix): Halle Berry plays an astronaut returning from space in Extant, a Steven Spielberg-produced sci-fi drama. After a 13-month solo expedition in space, astronaut Molly Woods (Halle Berry) returns to Earth and reunites with her husband, John (Goran Visnjic), and her son, Ethan (Pierce Gagnon). Due to fertility issues, Ethan is a robot son created by John. When Molly visits the doctor upon her return, it’s revealed that she is pregnant. How could someone alone in space get pregnant?

Thunderbolts (Disney+): At the heart of the story is The Void — a mysterious force feeding on each member’s inner demons. Its link to newcomer Bob (Lewis Pullman), who appears to be just a regular guy, is the central mystery that Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) is desperate to solve before The Void swallows the world whole. The film delivers everything MCU loyalists expect — bone-crunching action, biting humor, and tense team dynamics (with the exception of a criminally underused Taskmaster, played by Olga Kurlyenko). But what truly elevates Thunderbolts is Pugh. Her Yelena is sharp, scarred, and endlessly compelling — the kind of Marvel heroine who feels both grounded and dangerous. She anchors the film’s trauma-driven core, transforming what could have been another generic slugfest into a deeper, weightier story with unexpected emotional power.

Wednesday season 2 (Netflix): Wednesday returns to Nevermore for a new mystery in season 2. While expanding her psychic powers, Wednesday has a troubling vision of murder involving a friend. A sinister presence is also after Wednesday, and it’s her job to figure out why. Much to her dismay, Wednesday is not the only Addams at Nevermore this semester. Wednesday’s brother, Pugsley (Isaac Ordonez), is now a student, while Morticia takes on a more active role as an alumna.

Hell of a Summer (Hulu): The story follows Jason Hochberg (Fred Hechinger), who’s definitely too old for this gig — stuck as a counselor at a summer camp full of obnoxious teenagers. Things go from bad to worse when a masked killer starts picking off counselors one by one. And no, it’s not Jason Voorhees; instead, it’s a bargain-bin devil mask–wearing maniac who uses axes, knives, and, bizarrely, peanut butter–coated weapons to do the job. Jason’s “hell of a summer” quickly turns into a fight for survival, with little hope of making it to next season unless he can stop the carnage. Sure, Hell of a Summer is derivative, rarely scary, and only funny in fits and bursts. But the cast’s infectious energy makes it surprisingly entertaining. Hechinger stands out in particular, bringing the same laid-back Gen Z slacker charm he’s shown in The White Lotus and Thelma. The result? A slasher that doesn’t reinvent the genre but makes for an easy, one-and-done watch — fun while it lasts, but not exactly sequel material.

On Swift Horses (Netflix): In On Swift Horses, Elordi plays Julius, a Korean War veteran who reunites with his brother, Lee (Will Poulter), and Lee’s wife, Muriel (Daisy Edgar-Jones). An undeniable spark ignites between Julius and Muriel, yet before temptation can turn into betrayal, Julius departs for Las Vegas while Muriel and Lee settle in San Diego. Despite the distance—and their dangerous entanglements with other lovers—Julius and Muriel remain bound by the fleeting connection they once shared. But is it truly love that ties them together, or something deeper, stranger, and far more complicated than romance alone?

The Legend of Ochi (HBO Max): One of this year’s most overlooked fantasy gems quietly hit theaters back in April, but now that it’s streaming on HBO Max, audiences finally have a chance to discover The Legend of Ochi. This A24 fantasy adventure stars Helena Zengel as Yuri, a young Ukrainian farm girl who seems to live an ordinary life—except for one terrifying rule: she can never step outside after dark, or risk being hunted by shadowy creatures known as the Ochi. Her world changes when she discovers a lost baby Ochi and sets off on a perilous yet heartfelt journey to return it home. A rare kind of family-friendly fantasy in the spirit of Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal, The Legend of Ochi blends CGI with practical puppetry and stunning matte-painted backdrops, creating a visual world that feels both nostalgic and breathtakingly new. While the bond between a lonely child and a mythical creature is a familiar theme, this film breathes new life into it—making the story feel timely, magical, and deeply moving.

The Monkey (Hulu): Twin brothers Bill and Hal (both portrayed by Theo James) carry the scars of a haunted childhood—an absent father, a fractured upbringing, and a murderous toy monkey with a deadly curse. Long ago, they thought they’d buried the horror for good. But 25 years later, the monkey resurfaces, more dangerous than ever, forcing the estranged brothers to reunite and confront the terror they once tried to forget—before it claims them, too. Director Osgood “Oz” Perkins, celebrated for atmospheric chillers like The Blackcoat’s Daughter and Longlegs, takes a slightly different turn with The Monkey. While the film delivers the stylish dread and brutal tension he’s known for, it also sprinkles in dark humor amidst the bloodshed. The result is an outrageous yet sharp exploration of death’s cruel randomness. Perkins doesn’t promise escape from the inevitable—only a reminder that sometimes, the best you can do is face the darkness with a scream… and maybe a laugh.

Untamed Season 1 (Netflix): Untamed, Netflix’s gripping new mystery, opens with a shocking twist: the body of an unidentified woman plunges from the cliffs of El Capitan in Yosemite National Park. National Park Service ISB special agent Kyle Turner joins forces with rookie ranger Naya Vasquez (Lily Santiago) to unravel the chilling case. Turner quickly discovers the fall was no accident—it was murder. The hunt for the killer leads him deep into Yosemite’s unforgiving wilderness, where every trail hides danger and every secret uncovered pulls him further into a tangled web of lies, betrayal, and survival.
