Bank holiday today on Ganesh Chaturthi 2025: Are banks open or closed? Check state-wise list for August 27 and August 28

Banks will remain closed in several states for Ganesh Chaturthi. Depending on the state, branches will be shut on August 27, 2025 for Ganesh Chaturthi, and on August 28, 2025 for Ganesh Chaturthi (2nd day) and Nuakhai festival in certain regions.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) releases a monthly list of bank holidays so that customers can plan their banking tasks in advance and avoid inconvenience.

Apart from national, regional holidays, banks will observe public holidays on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month. Note that August has five Saturday’s and the fifth Saturday is a working day for banks as per the RBI rules.

Banks are closed in Odisha on August 28, 2025 to celebrate Nuakhai, in Goa to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi (2nd Day).

Nuakhai

Nuakhai is an agricultural festival mostly observed by the people of Western Odisha, India. Nuakhai is observed to welcome the next season's rice. According to the calendar, it is celebrated on panchami tithi of the lunar fortnight of Bhadrapada or Bhadraba (August-September), the day following the Ganesh Chaturthi holiday.
