New SBI credit card rules
SBI Card announced that all its existing credit Card Protection Plan (CPP) customers will be automatically shifted to updated plan variants at the time of their policy renewal from September 16, 2025, onwards. The migration of all these CPP customers will be applicable from the renewal due date of their respective policies. Customers will be informed about the migration via SMSes and emails at least 24 hours before the renewal, SBI Card said in an update.
According to the SBI Card website, “W.e.f. 16 September 2025, all CPP customers will be automatically migrated to the updated plan variants based on their respective renewal due dates.”

The charges for the updated CPP variants are less than for the previous variants. (see tables below)

Card Protection Plan (CPP)

CPP (Card Protection Plan) is a comprehensive card protection service company. It safeguards registered customers in cases of card losses or thefts, according to SBI Card’s website. With CPP, SBI Card customers get benefits like, protection in case of the card being lost or stolen, emergency card blocking services, assistance with important documents such as driving licence and passport details.
Card Protection Plan (CPP) also provides customers protection against frauds such as transactions involving PIN-based frauds, phishing, tele-phishing and transactions where an OTP is not required (if card is lost/stolen), for amounts up to Rs 3 lakh, depending on the product variant. The plan comes in three variants: Classic, Premium, and Platinum.

What is the registration process for CPP?
SBI Card said that after paying the fee, CPP will dispatch a welcome kit to the customers with their unique membership number on the same. There will also be a registration form that customers need to fill and send back to CPP. Alternatively, they can also call up the CPP call centre to register their cards and documents.

Why should customers get their driving licence & passport number registered?
In case customers need their DL or the Passport card number and they are not carrying them, the customers can call an SBI Card executive who will provide the required numbers.
