Banks are closed on September 5, 2025 in Gujarat, Mizoram, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Manipur, Jammu, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, New Delhi, Jharkhand, Jammu and Srinagar for Id-E-Milad and Thiruvonam.Also, the Maharashtra government on Thursday said the public holiday on account of Eid-e-Milad in Mumbai city and suburban district will be observed on September 8, 2025, instead of September 5, 2025.
RBI in its circular said, "The Government of Maharashtra has declared September 08, 2025, as a public holiday under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881. The public holiday on September 05, 2025, declared earlier has been cancelled. Accordingly, there will be no transactions and settlements in Government securities, foreign exchange, money markets and rupee interest rate derivatives on September 08, 2025. The Government securities market, foreign exchange market, money market and rupee interest rate derivatives market will now be operational on September 05, 2025."
Bank holidays in September 2025
Banks will be closed in various states for occasions such as Karma Puja, First Onam, Id-E-Milad, Thiruvonam, Id-e-Milad, Indrajatra, the Friday following Eid-i-Milad-ul-Nabi, Navratra Sthapna, the birthday of Maharaja Hari Singh Ji, Maha Saptami/Durga Puja.
Digital banking
Customers can conveniently check balances, transfer money via NEFT, RTGS, IMPS, or UPI, pay bills and EMIs, open or close FDs and RDs. However, a few services still need an in-person visit to a bank branch. These include large cash deposits or withdrawals, issuing demand drafts, accessing lockers, updating signatures or KYC with physical documents, closing accounts or loans, settling claims after the death of an account holder, certain cases of loan disbursement or foreclosure, and updating registered contact details like mobile number or email.September bank holiday 2025
