Sensex Today | Stock Market LIVE Updates: Indian benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty50 fell after swinging between gains & losses on Tuesday, amid broader Asian markets, as investors awaited July’s domestic inflation data and a key US inflation report that could shape near-term interest rate expectations.
Indian benchmark indices ended in the red in a volatile Tuesday session though managing to recover from the day's low. Banks turned out to be the main spoilers led by heavyweights HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank. While the S&P BSE Sensex settled at 80,235.59, down 368.49 points or 0.5%, the broader Nifty closed at 24,487.40, lower by 97.65 points or 0.4%.
Banks and financials were at the receiving end of investor's ire with Nifty Bank settling 0.84% lower while Nifty Financial Services closing 0.9% down. Among the gainers were Nifty Auto, Nifty IT, Nifty Pharma and Nifty Oil & Gas which were up between 0.4% and 0.7%.
The top five gainers on Nifty were Tech Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki, Hero MotoCorp, Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) and NTPC while the top losers were Bajaj Finance, Trent, Hindustan Unilever, Nestle India and Eternal.

Sebi doubles broker inspections, sharp rise in oversight of investment advisers, research analysts in FY25
Markets regulator Sebi has significantly ramped up its surveillance and enforcement efforts in FY25, carrying out 312 inspections of stock brokers, more than double the 146 conducted in the previous year.
Also, oversight of other market intermediaries also rose sharply, with inspections of investment advisers surging to 207 from 21 and research analysts jumping to 149 from just 15 in FY24, according to Sebi's annual report for 2024-25 released on Tuesday.
In contrast, inspections of mutual funds and their registrar and transfer agents (RTAs) remained largely steady at 24 compared to 25 a year earlier.

US stocks open higher as inflation rises moderately in July
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 75.4 points, or 0.17%, at the open to 44050.53. The S&P 500 rose 21.7 points, or 0.34%, to 6395.17, while the Nasdaq Composite rose 122.0 points, or 0.57%, to 21507.441.

Markets regulator Sebi plans to simplify the offer document preparation process by introducing a template-based approach for relevant sections as it aims to reduce repetitive information and streamline disclosures.
Also, Sebi intends to rationalise and optimise existing regulations, simplify the regulatory framework for foreign portfolio investors (FPIs), and expand the range of permissible investment strategies under Specialised Investment Funds (SIFs), according to its annual report for 2024-25, released on Tuesday.

RVNL Q1 Results: Cons PAT slumps 40% YoY; revenue, income see marginal dip
Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL) on Tuesday reported a 39.99% year-on-year (YoY) decline in its consolidated net profit after tax to Rs 134.36 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2025, compared to Rs 223.92 crore in the same period last year.
Revenue from operations came in at Rs 3,908.77 crore, down 4.05% YoY from Rs 4,073.80 crore in Q1FY24. Total income also fell 4.61% YoY to Rs 4,136.96 crore from Rs 4,336.75 crore in the corresponding quarter last year, indicating a softer topline performance. Read more

MUMBAI -India's market regulator has rejected a plea by industrialist Anil Ambani to settle charges related to investments in lender Yes Bank, potentially exposing him to at least a 18.28 billion rupee ($208.4 million) penalty, according to documents reviewed by Reuters.

Stock Market LIVE Updates: Shapoorji targets Rs 8,300 crore debt repayment in potential Tata exit
India’s Shapoorji Pallonji Group plans to use some of the proceeds from a potential sale of its 18.4% stake in Tata Sons Pvt. to repay debt held by its infrastructure unit, according to people familiar with the matter.
Shapoorji is aiming to settle the outstanding ₹8,300 crore bonds that were issued by Goswami Infratech Pvt. and mature in April next year, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the matter is private.
A full or partial repayment of Goswami’s debt would assist investors to support the group’s other capital expenditure plans, they said. Talks are at an early stage and the plans could still change, the people said.

- In contrast, the Non-Institutional Investor (NII) segment — comprising high-net-worth individuals and corporate investors — has seen only 4% subscription of the 45.90 lakh shares reserved for them. This points to a slow pickup in demand from larger investors at this stage.
- Meanwhile, the Qualified Institutional Buyers (QIB) category, which includes mutual funds, insurance companies, and other institutional players, has subscribed to 57% of the 88.62 lakh shares allotted to them, indicating relatively stronger interest from institutional investors.
Australia's central bank cuts rates to two-year low of 3.60%
- Australia’s central bank on Tuesday reduced its benchmark cash rate by 25 basis points to 3.60%, marking its lowest level in two years.
- The move was driven by signs of cooling inflation and a moderating labour market.
- In its statement after a two-day policy meeting, the Reserve Bank of Australia said current data suggested core inflation would ease toward the midpoint of its 2%–3% target band, even if monetary policy is loosened only gradually.
- The bank, however, remained cautious about the scope for further rate cuts.
