Sensex Today | Stock Market LIVE Updates: The S&P BSE Sensex added 76.54 points, or 0.09%, to finish at 80,787.30, while the NSE Nifty 50 rose 32.15 points, or 0.13%, to 24,773.15.
On the Sensex, Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki, Adani Ports and Tata Steel led the advance, advacing between 0.7% and 4%.
The metals index rose 0.4% after Morgan Stanley struck a more positive view on Indian steelmakers, pointing to stronger demand, China’s supply reforms and a weaker U.S. dollar.
The brokerage raised its rating on JSW Steel and Tata Steel to “overweight” from “equal weight,” and lifted SAIL to “equal weight” from “underweight.” Shares of the three companies gained between 0.7% and 3%.
Auto stocks outperformed, with the sector index up 1.8%, powered by Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra, which each jumped 4% after cutting prices across their lineups to pass along the full benefit of the GST reductions to buyers.
In the broader market, the smallcaps and midcaps rose 0.2% and 0.5%, respectively.

- Oil prices climbed more than $1 on Monday, regaining some of last week's losses, helped by the prospect of more sanctions on Russian crude after an overnight strike on Ukraine.
- OPEC+ flagged plans to further increase production from October but the amount was modest.
- Brent crude climbed $1.24, or 1.9%, to $66.74 a barrel by 0640 GMT, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude rose $1.17, or 1.9%, to $63.04 a barrel.
- Both benchmarks fell more than 2% on Friday as a weak U.S. jobs report dimmed the outlook for energy demand. They lost more than 3% last week.

The Nifty’s near-term trajectory remains finely balanced. Last week’s turn lower from the 50-day SMA seemed to suggest that the recovery push may be over. However, Friday’s close above the 20-day SMA, after the initial scare, tells me there’s still enough risk appetite to push higher. For me, confirmation will come only if the index moves past 24,870 to target levels beyond 25,400. On the flip side, if it fails to close above 24,700 or directly falls below 24,500, it could re-expose 24,075, the 200-day SMA, as well as the Fibonacci extension target of 23,860. That said, I find such an outcome less likely, given the muted VIX, which steadily declined last week to end near 10.78 on Friday.
