  • Market Digest: ALL, D, HPQ, PINS, MRNA, CRWD

To make calls on momentum, we look at several factors, including stocks trading above or below key trendlines, highs and lows, and indices versus moving averages. Right now, market momentum is mixed. Currently, 47% of stocks are trading above their 20-day moving averages, just below the demarcation level of 50%. This short-term technical metric had been in a bullish pattern of higher highs and higher lows following a recent low of 34% in May 2026, but has seen recent declines. Despite a more-positive trend over the long term, there is room for further downward movement given the one-year low of 17%. Meanwhile, longer-term trends are more bullish. The percentage of stocks trading above their 100-day moving averages is in positive territory, currently at 58%. This metric last bottomed near 35% in March 2026 and has been in a bullish pattern since. And there is still headroom before the ceiling is hit, given the five-year high of 79%. From a longer-term technical perspective, the percentage of stocks above their 200-day trendline is also positive (current reading of 60%), and this metric has maintained a short-term bullish pattern of higher highs and higher lows that dates to late March. It remains well above a low of 14% in April 2025, but still has room to run before it nears the five-year high of 72%. Turning to the indices, the S&P 500 remains well above the 200-day moving average at 5,574. The trendline's slope is positive, another bullish indicator.
